Durham’s T20 Campaign

These days Harmison looks like he's heading for the doughnut shop.
You mean on his way back from the doughnut shop surely? Certainly a big unit;inevitable really.
We’ve got 5 players in the England squad(s) and the finances are (we’re lead to believe) on a very solid footing. So not really that interesting.

Pretty bang on when you put it into perspective.

I’ve mentioned it elsewhere, but the club are at the mercy of clubs wanting to host and absorb the costs of hosting.

That nursery ground would’ve solved a lot of problems. If it had been built…
Yes,don't really have a problem with staging games slightly the other side of our borders if it makes financial sense. Bostock appears to have been a shrewd appointment, club heading to be debt free by 2024.
We've had 5 players involved in England set ups in the past e.g. Harmi, Colly, Plunkett, Colonel, Davies. We replaced them with Hussey, Divo, Benks, Blackwell etc. This lot have been replaced by Bancroft, Peterson,Turner,Maddinson,Bedingham. Not quite the same pedigree.
2nds are winless,3 rd bottom of 2nd XI championship and not one single player has graduated from the academy and established himself at senior level during Franklin's 4 year tenure.
I find that a shocking inditement.

What we need is clear communication from Beefy, Franklin and Bostock saying what’s gone wrong and their commitment to fan satisfaction (and success in the game). Turn down the mic bloke, refurbish the ground and overhaul the coaching. Plenty of eager young lads read
to play. Have some faith man beefy
Only time you get communication from them is when it’s renewal time or they’re trying to flog International tickets, members no longer matter to the club we’re just customers.

Bryan Adams has been picked ahead of Bushnell to bat for the seconds in richmond
So long as Diana Ross isn't opening the batting on Friday night. She ought to be practicing her miming and penalties.

The only time the members seemed to matter to the club over the past few seasons was in 2020 - after that normal service was quickly resumed.

Been like that for a few years now. But since covid I think they realized how much they saved on match day costs for championship matches and it's probably got worse.

It’s not exactly the same. The players you mentioned weren’t all gone at once, nor where the players that replaced them all here at once.

Bit of a false equivalence there let’s be honest.

It is a shocking indictment, but that is more John Windows’ remit, is it not? I mentioned elsewhere, the wonders that man has worked at this club means he’s got plenty left in the bank - but perhaps it’s also a nod to why we aren’t just throwing all these kids in willy nilly….? Could it be that (as I alluded to) they aren’t ready?

The financial constraints placed on the club by FTECB hit all aspects of the club and it was highlighted at the time that the academy would have to be quite drastically cut to accommodate this.

Many will remember that on top of the financial and personnel cuts, the club pulled the Academy XI out of the NEPL.

None of those things were decided or acted upon by James Franklin.

I can’t quite believe that I seem to be the only one putting two and two together on all of those factors. It’s no surprise whatsoever that we’ve had a bit of a drought on the youth development/progression in the 5 years after those cuts.

It’s hardly rocket surgery.

It’s been like that since 1992. I remember it was Tim Wellock’s biggest issue with the club throughout his entire career covering us. It’s nowt to do with Covid.

Well I have been a member since 1996 and I have never thought it's been great but T20 firstly has definitely changed the way the club view members. They even tried to stop the T20 being part of your membership. I also feel there has been a change since covid. I was very surprised on good Friday at the Notts match the state of the ground and so many facilities not open. I said at the time it as if the season starts with the T20.

I was speaking mainly on the ‘communication’ aspect that was raised marra, but I agree wholeheartedly that T20’s should be part of your membership package. All cricket at CLS should be actually I would argue (and YES, I absolutely include internationals in that).

Bloody depressing at the moment

I honestly don’t mind seeing us get beat but there is just no identity to this team with players coming in for 1 game here and 2 games there. It’s not as if it’s paying off with results either, if we’re going to get beat then I’d rather we did so with players committed to a future at Durham. This just has the feeling of a franchise team.

I find it all a farce TBH when we’re signing players for the odd game, sure if your overseas pro gets a bad injury then replace them for the duration of the competition but stop this pissing about with short term signings and give some youngsters a chance. Yes, we will get beaten but that’s already happening.

If we’re losing Stokes, Lees, Matty Potts (and even Carse for one dayers) then put any compensation into developing home grown talent and give them a chance.

Just really depressing isn’t it? Team doesn’t care about it’s young players, the supporters or anything that doesn’t make money. Nobody would be as upset if the club engaged with fans. Just look at their twitter feed: ZERO fan interactions.
Predictions for Friday?
