Drinking in Sunderland City Centre - restored

My oldest lad was 18 the beginning of November and he hasn’t been out to the town yet.

He’s had two legal pints one after work and one at a gig. The young uns these days seem so different.
My son is 21 and doesn’t drink at all and doesn’t want to. He goes out for food and to the cinema with his mates. I think it’s great, they don’t need to have alcohol to have a good time. Doesn’t take after his mam at all 😳😂

Thats what hes telling you, seems a new thing is to tell the parents they dont drink. It does seem to carry a bit of street cred not too drink, but few youngins at work saying the same thing, they all ended up steaming more than once over xmas. Amongst other things.

Maybe some do but I can’t see how the parents wouldn’t know, I certainly would. Add to that he wouldn’t feel the need to hide it from me, that’s just odd! My son doesn’t give a shit about street cred either, he’s always followed the beat of his own drum. Something I admire greatly about him. Also the the majority of his close mates are Muslim and definitely don’t consume alcohol ( there are 7 of them and 5 are Muslim) they aren’t going out to drink, secretly or otherwise.

I know plenty muslims that Drink also so that isn't a proof of anything because there muslim, granted they all hide it from there piers but they drink. All im saying is it seems to be a common thing to say you dont drink now when they do. And the parents seem to beleive it. Thats fine, ps my job involves selling alcohol so i have a good insight. 😀

Yes I have worked with a fair few who drink however his mates don’t 🤷🏼‍♀️. I’m sure you are right in what you say to an extent, just really don’t get why they would want to hide it from their parents at 21! I’m the last person to take the moral high ground on alcohol I can assure you 😂

I think we can all come together in saying we hid stuff from parents! Every time i came in at 7am i had just “slepy over at a friends” not been on jack and jills all night 😂😂

Missing a trick should be 10

I reckon POC be too busy and Chaplins normally chocka also
Street Bar probably be canny because of the amount of TVs. Getting served will be a ball ache everywhere though I reckon.
