Drinking in Sunderland City Centre - restored

I don't think it's a rough bar at all. The doorstaff are associated with a certain family from Marley Potts so you'd be daft to do anything stupid.
Still has its moments in there mind. But I was really impressed with how everything was ran last night.

That little corner next to the toilet is the safest place to be. It's my regular seat though so keep off
I’ll remember that when I’m cowering in another corner 😂

I’m from Gateshead so maybe I get the swivelling heads when I open my mouth 😳😂 although I do tend to talk very very quietly when I’m in there.
I’ve frequented and still do on occasion some well dodgy pubs in my area, have also went to a some fine establishments in Sunderland with my ex who hails from Southwick. Add to that some mad places in Glasgow and I can truly say Cleo’s is the only pub I’ve felt unsafe in. To the point I’ve asked to leave. But I agree, we all speak as we find

Had my first few beers since 2016 in Sunderland between Christmas and New Year and was surprised the pubs we were in were far better than I remembered. Lots of potential. One of which was the pub that used to be I think The Derry or Flares.

Park Lane area and its bars still look awful mind you.

We are probably at peak pub at the minute

I was in The Wheatsheaf afore kick off today.
Plastic glasses and Wee Phillie. 🫣

I'll not be back in a hurry.

Do you really expect proper glasses in a pub across the road from the stadium where away fans are welcome? Let's be realistic here man :D
Wee Phillie is alright though the stuff he does is literally the same thing every home game its funny once or twice but after 3 or more ya left questioning ya own sanity.

Away fans are welcome in just about every pub in Sunderland, though not all pubs see the need for plastic glasses, though I do see your point, regarding the proximity of the Wheatsheaf to the ground, though I don't ever recall having to use plastic glasses in the Democratic club (for The SOL), or The Cambridge and New Derby (for Roker) on a matchday.

Agreed on WP's pre match show, too.

Pint of Freddy’s Drop in the Keel Tavern was £6.30 last night. A new low (high) for the town centre that’s in danger of killing itself off.
