Drinking in Sunderland City Centre - restored

Pint of Freddy’s Drop in the Keel Tavern was £6.30 last night. A new low (high) for the town centre that’s in danger of killing itself off.

I'm worried for how Town will be in the spring anyways. Not a soul will be out after derby day for a while. Bills will go up again because of what's happening in the Red Sea, they're having to divert all the way round South Africa so anything imported is gonna go up, and government grants ending on March 31st. Absolutely grim outlook for the pub industry.

Town pubs are topper for people 35 plus at the minute. Don't think there is much there for the under 30s though.
Too busy in gyms and shit mate, saving up and getting ripped for their 1 week break to Ibiza and Ocean Beach.

But in all seriousness, I don't think young people can afford to go out like I remember us oldies doing back in the day, pretty much every night you could go out and the town in various areas would be rammed early 90's onwards. If the young guns were spending there would be bars/clubs to accommodate.

Walked in and straight back out after the match yesterday, was rammed too...not sure how long the crowds lasted mind.

Was in just before Christmas for food and drinks with family, two pints, couple of soft drinks and a bottle of wine came in at £55! Great for the odd occasional visit, but not somewhere where you could go on a big session in. Selection and surroundings should see it do well, but I think it'll die off a bit once everyone has been in a few times. Botanist and Muddler should give it that extra injection of footfall.

Aye young uns at work seem to be more into big one off events like creamfields and stuff than going out local regularly.

Nah, empty. Everywhere was except Cleo’s and no doubt the Rabbit.

Local is a lot more affordable than town though, and they don’t seem to go out there either.
Sorry when I said local I meant town. They tend to go to big clubbing events in the likes of Manchester, London etc instead.

Yeah I bought two pints yesterday in there for £12.60. It's decent inside. But I can't justify paying that for a pint. Pretty off-putting.in terms of going back.

Indie is packed every Wednesday, that's where they're all at.

As someone else mentioned from Green Terrace upwards to Park Lane the only people you're finding is either Rabbit or Cleo's, then everyone meets up in the middle in Seven. Even Ttonic is struggling to stay open til 3am which is a first I've ever seen.

which place do you run?

My oldest lad was 18 the beginning of November and he hasn’t been out to the town yet.

He’s had two legal pints one after work and one at a gig. The young uns these days seem so different.

I don't blame him tbf.

The younguns are either rolling back the years with 70's mullets or literally shadow boxing on Vine Place by 11pm. Must be shite if ya reasonably mature.

Yes I’m pleased actually he prefers to go out for food with his mates and go to the gym.

I'm hoping my kids don't get into going out down the town to be honest or get involved in booze the way I did as soon as I was old enough.
I was a nightmare to be fair just managed to scrape getting my A Levels as I was too busy partying at 18, one pound vodkas in the vestry and Annabels on a Wednesday night then I would duff college the next day.
