Do people still use a greengrocer?

Bit of a myth them being fresher than supermarkets. Supermarkets source their fruit and veg direct from farms and usually have strict quality standards. High street independents usually (not always) will go through wholesalers.
Not the one I use. All veg from local farms. Far fewer food miles than a supermarket that gets deliveries from a central depot. Said depot being a lot like a wholesaler.

Fruit obviously from further afield, not many pineapple and banana farms in Lancashire

Like I said not all mate. And i would personally rather use a local green grocer. But the stuff supermarkets sell is usually very fresh. They spend a lot of cash making that the case.
Hutchies do a service to the locals but they do buy/sell class 2 produce, that’s why their prices are so keen, still wouldn’t put me off buying their gear though.
Me neither mate. Would much rather help a local business than some multi million pound business.

Aye it's really expensive like. There's two of them and the produce is great but they're both extortionate.

A drum of extra virgin olive oil is only £19.99 though, which is decent.
Blimey. Why is it like that?

Seriously the ones in the markets and stuff round here are dirt cheap. Same taste and quality as anywhere else I’d say. Supermarket stuff looks aesthetically better but that’s because people are just used to that.

London and that.
Same. Organic one round our way is outrageous. Works like. It's always mad busy.

Ended up spending £17 on a bag of tomatoes and some other bits like fresh garlic and a little bag of sumac . All shapes, sizes and colours like, they were really nice tomatoes.

Aye I do the same. They get some lovely tomatoes in but not the season. Rather have less frequently and better quality.

Bought a mahusive avocado this weekend. Same size as football man.

Never noticed a huge difference when shopping down there for normal stuff. Saying that like the avocados I get at the market I can’t really work out why they’re this cheap. Seems odd.

Supermarkets cost the same. The independent shops do not. The stuff they get in is fantastic though.

Good. Only issue I would have around Newcastle is there’s no really good meat suppliers. All the market stuff is pretty crap apart from the likes of the Spanish Deli and the specialists. The butchers are shite. Can’t fault the fish mongers.

Have to do a trip out to knitsley every once in a while for me meat.

There isn’t ,at a push you can tilt the blinds but to shut the blinds or curtains fully (who has curtains in 2020 is another topic )Is lifting.

As our mutual friend will confirm this isn’t a internet persona it really is me . I tone it down a bit on here as not to offend and get a ban tbh.
I still have net curtains in the front window
And I don’t use costermongers as they aren’t open when I do my shopping at night.

No good butchers round here either. Have to go to Ginger Pig in the village or make do with M&S.

Bought bacon past few weeks from the market as I reckon it’s a good barometer for quality. Both butchers I bought it from water seeped out in large quantities. If the bacon does that I don’t want anything else off them.

Try George Payne in Brunton Park or that lass butcher in Ashburton Gossy
