Diarra out till December

Yip, I don't think we'll see him in a Sunderland shirt until after AFCON
Its unusual to let a player play internationals if fitness isnt proven on the pitch at the club . I'd be very reluctant to allow the Africans to manage his training/playing load if hes not 100% .

Well if he isn’t available for that game I can’t see him going to Afcon
Unfortunately even if he's not fit they might think he can make the back end of the tournament. I suppose it depends on how much they value him? His record for Senegal is very good. 4 goals in 11 games from midfield. I've no idea who has been his replacement and how he's performed? Hopefully they let him stay here and he can slot in alongside Granit.

Real shame he won’t be fit for the mags game by sound of it. On the bright side, means he will hopefully be fit and ready to smash their midfield at the landfill next year. 😄

He's not an automatic starter for Senegal, so with his injury they may not use a squad place on him.
He has been until his injury. 4 goals in 11 games from midfield is a superb return. He only made his debut about 18 months ago. He's a very important player for them but hopefully they can manage without him.

I suspect they'll take him but tbh I don't think it would be the right decision if he doesn't play for SAFC prior to the tournament. We all know how long it can get a player up to speed after a lengthy lay off and it could be a risk for them. It's the kind of risk we'd take with Harry Kane or someone but I'm not convinced they'd need to take the risk with Diarra. In some ways I almost hope they do. They can play him back to fitness whilst we have 11 fully match fit players and then, after AFCON, we get him back in nearly top shape ready for some huge games

Did he not score for them v England recently ( or have I made that up ?)
Thought he was a “ main man “?
He did score in that game, but that was a friendly. For example, he was a sub (albeit he came on) when they played DR Congo in a must win 1st vs 2nd world cup qualifier. They went from 2nd to 1st with a last minute winner.
