Diarra out till December

That's over 20% of the entire PL season and doesn't include AFCON.

A £30m signing for a newly promoted side and he'll miss at the very least 30%-35% of our games.

Could well be the difference between staying up and not.
AFCON - there’s now no guarantee they’d take him away when he’s been injured this long.

Yes, it’s disappointing but I wouldn’t say it’s worth panicking over with players set to step in.

It shows how good our recruitment team have done that we have options to come in following an injury to a big player.

If we play a 4 then yes Masuaku, but cannot see it if we play a 3/5.
Agree that RLB prefers a back four though but even against 10 men on Sunday, I think he’d of been super happy with that system.
Also the threat of Ballard is a huge swing for me, create more through him than with wingers 😅

Masuake is a wing back, why couldn't you see him playing there if we (highly unlikely as it is) played with wingbacks?

Bad news. He’ll be a big miss. Got to get on with it though. And it’s an opportunity for the likes of Dan. Hopefully Mundle will come back as well.

It was noticeable we switched back to a back 4 after Villa scored. Regis clearly sees 3 CBs as a purely defensive option which cuts down our attacking possibilities. He'll stick with 4 the vast majority of the time.

Mundle ,le fee and Diarra all injured in training so far this season and not in actual games ,wtf is going on

Not that they'd be starting games so it doesn't really matter, but the cohort of players who were injured prior to the season beginning (O'Nien, Cirkin etc) we were told would be back after the first international break are nowhere to be seen either. Again it doesn't really matter but it's another example of inaccurate timelines.

Mundle last season missed 14 weeks for an injury that we were consistently told would have him out for 6.

I'll get the "things change" replies but there's a common theme whereby we seem to be unable to properly diagnose injuries, or prevent them from occuring. Sorry like but it's an absolute nonsense that players are doing anything that could result in a muscle injury in a training session the DAY before a game FFS.

Massive. Our record signing managed 4 games before needing surgery and an extended spell on the sidelines. It’s a sickener.

We have good players though. We might end up changing the system to a back 5, with one of the 3 CB’s stepping into midfield, as we saw Ballard do on Sunday.

Or we play Rigg in the Diarra role (which is essentially the Rigg role from last season, the most advanced of the 3 midfielders).

Or we bring ELF into central midfield in the Diarra role and use Adingra/Mundle wide left.

Lots of options.
With this I’d absolutely be going 3 CBs now and pushing the fullbacks up slightly with Masuaku coming in

Chance for others to step up. Gonna be a miss but at least we got this done quickly and gives us a chance to get him back quicker. Rigg and Neil will fancy it and even can play two up front? Mayenda and Isidor?

The two up top option will only happen if we go wing backs with 3 in the middle imo.

No chance will we ever go 4-4-2 from the beginning.

No he'll likely be fit enough to demand to play in that and fuck himself totally.
Must be a bad one if they havent even tried a conservative rehab . f***ing shite groin injuries for recurring too.😡

Without surgery, yes. Same goes for hamstrings. Corry Evans was forever getting hamstring injuries before surgery. Never had one with us - he broke his leg instead.

I don’t think there will be many times we can play both young wingers, especially away from home.
Both Reinildo & Masuaku like to get forward, and it’s a good option having Le Fee in the starting line up, who can then move inside.
Talbi & Adingra can both operate on the right, one at a time, obviously.
Great chance for Chris Rigg on Saturday. Hopefully he gets a full game this time.

Roefs

Hume - Mukiele - Alderete - Masuaku

Xhaka - Sadiki

Talbi - Rigg - Le Fee

Isidor

A devastating blow IMO.

He's absolutely superb. So good at driving us up the field and will be a massive loss.

Just bloody typical and continues the ridiculous trend of injuries we pick up.

Two weeks in a row now players have picked up muscle injuries in the session immediately before a game.

You really do have a bleak outlook on things don't you.

50% glass empty.

That's 0.5 of a glass, not full.

A full 1/2 of no water.

Massive blow this tbh. Were going to miss his strength and pace in midfield long term yes rigg looked canny on Sunday but he hasn't got those attributes
