For those having a go at him closing the keeper down, that's what the centre forward should have been doing more during the game. Cirkin ended up being further forward from a previous run, if he moves forward, somebody covers.

For having so many missing, then adding Ballard as well, we've still come away with a point.

The day for about 80 minutes was flat as a fart. Post Christmas / derby hangover maybe.

One thing for sure, play like that against Man City and god help the goal difference.
 
i thought he did okay given how long it's been since he last played a competitive game

he was understandably shattered in the last 10/15 minutes but still did a job given i think Regis would rather play with 10 than stick Hjelde into a PL game

Like it or not, it takes time to get used to this level, and this is part of the game. He will have a real job against City, but so would anyone we play at LB. Good game time no matter what.

Would be good if our supporters got behind the lad instead of desperately predicting his and Rigg's downfalls.

He didn’t look out of place today and I thought he did well first half. He went walkabout for their goal though and should have really been busting a gut to get back but casually trotted back and in the end did nothing. There’s no room for passengers at PL level. He deserves some slack considering it was his PL debut and first game in 6 months.

Longer term the likes of Cirkin, Neil, Rigg, o’nien, mundle etc have a decision to make. They’re not PL starter level atm but definitely have the potential to be PL squad players. That might not be enough for them. Most championship teams would take them but that’s not the PL glamour. They can either knuckle down here or leave. I don’t see any PL teams taking them even with the likes of Cirkin and Neil being available on frees.

We interchange on purpose and he was following instructions. By swapping people out pressing from the front it allows us to do it all game long. It's also done to overload at the right moment. We sometimes bring our centre backs up top during open play too for that reason.

It's modern tactics. What went wrong was the team not filling in properly, Xhaka being done for pace against a quick winger and our centre backs not tracking Calvert-Lewin.

Cirkin has a good first half and it's the reason Adingra had so much joy. Second half his energy faded but he did little wrong.

Cirkin is a premier league left back getting up to speed after a long time out. Let's get behind our players eh?

Sorry but his mistakes are rinse and repeat and at much lower level had dame issies just not up to this level.
