Defoe

It's hardly a no-brainer just on the basis that he is better than Altidore. 90% of the footballing population fall into the bracket.

It's my opinion, and that it may not be the players we currently have that are the problem. It may be the manager and his negativity/reluctance to change the way the team play. I'm far from convinced that chucking a load of money at someone like Defoe is going to instantly solve that problem.
Don't think anyone's suggesting it's going to instantly solve the problem, well I haven't but if others have then fair enough. The fact is we're in a relegation battle and we struggle to score goals. Were replacing our worst forward with someone who will probably come in and be our best. It can't be anything other than promising. Let's hope a few more come in of Defoe's pedigree and we can move away from danger.

The constructive criticism like yours and @Live In Hope 's has been very fair imo.

although the club cant win with some fans at least they are trying to do something
Spavs and mackem00 have made some canny comments as well.

Mind they useless twats cant win with me at the minute, I'll admit that

I don't know when football fans became accountants and administrators. I'm a football fan, I want my team to do well, I will leave the business side to those getting paid to do their job. It's a simplistic view, maybe a naive view but I support my football team, the rest Im not really interested in.
When money became a big issue and with the FFP rules there are limited budgets for clubs like ourselves, so for me it is a relevant and topical subject

I was more meaning we already have a proven premier league scorer who is struggling to score in our current set up. Buying another one wont guarantee goals in the current setup
Exactly. I'm a bit pissed off that everyone seems to think this is what the team needs. I am not arguing that Defoe would improve us I'm saying it's not what we need

His reputation will also stop the opposition defenders pushing right up on us too as they'll be way more worried about leaving gaps at the back with him about.

Of course it won't, but swapping him for a striker who we know will never ever ever score can only be a good thing.

What am I going to do with my shirt now.

Have you seen some of the other t-shirts available on there? I like the "Headkick" one.

EPL Specials:
Soccer Cannons
EverTown
Manchester Light Blues
"You'll never walk away"
tyneside soccer skunks

Special Mention to .... "Ass Town Vanilla"

Some short memories surely! Is this not the guy who ended Craig Gordon's career with a deliberate stamp on his forearm fracturing the radial joint?

Bursting with excitement now as surely it must go through, it's become to public for it to fall through.

Once I see the photo of him in the shirt it's off to the shop as a relatively dry January is brought to an end.

Yes Bop lad!

Also, flashback to The Chronic's Twitter in October:

Now search "Defoe" and "NUFC":lol:

The ugly horse nonces can't decide whether he's an overpaid, overrated, over-the-hill journeyman or the next Sheerah and another reason for PARDEW OOT, oh wait...

This one is arguably my favourite, 5under1and mentions aside:

David Paterson ‏@onet18975 4h4 hours ago
Surely we should be going in for Defoe - he would much rather play for a big club! #NUFC

I'm the minority, but I agree, I cant get excited about Defoe certainly not in the same way other posters are. £80k is a fair whack of our wage budget for such a player.
For a player that moved to a very poor league and struggled with injuries, can his body withstand the pressure of premiership football, who knows, but this is an expensive way to find out.
