Defoe

We barely create any chances ffs. The likes of Costa and Aguero would struggle to score goals under the way Poyet has the team playing at the minute.

Paying a 32 year old a rumoured £80k a week on a three and a half year contract is also a huge financial risk for the club.
So what do you suggest ? Cancel the deal and keep a hold of altidore ? It's a no brainer of a deal for us man.

We've gone with not going for Alonso cos of cost, pulling out of the Borini deal presumably cos of money, possibly the same with Ki to now being able to pay a 32 year old (who left for the MLS for god knows what reason) a quoted 80k a week for 3 and a half years.

This baffles me greatly.

Our recruitment/payment policy makes no sense whatsoever.

Surely we can only pay Defoe's wages because Altidore going the other way frees up a big bulk of it? If Altidore was still on the books with no sign of going, I'm not sure we'd be in a position to sign off on Defoe's wages.

The Alonso deal wasn't done because another option (PVA) was available at a better deal and Fiorentina were reluctant to sell. We ended up with PVA who I think is probably just as good.

Borini didn't want to come. It was never about the money although the fact that Liverpool may have still owed us a few quid for Mignolet and add-ons for Henderson might have helped us negotiate the accepted bid.

Ki - not sure. Maybe he didn't fancy it either after seeing Laudrup replaced and Swansea seemingly playing better football. Maybe they did want a ridiculous fee.

Has Ellis been on the phone & told you or we just guessing. We've got rid of Altidore off wage list so like I said if he scores & keeps us up what does it matter as long as the club know what there doing.

Do you think we have an endless pot of money?

Just had a call.defoe playedd in a in house game.the transfer could take up to 24hrs as they have to wait until the jozy deal is done

I like how Congers is going for English players or players who are used to the premier league. Defoe has bags of experience. He's much less a risk than going for some unknown from a foreign league who has never scored a premier league goal before.
Defoe c oming to safc predates congertons involvement

What am I going to do with my shirt now.

So what do you suggest ? Cancel the deal and keep a hold of altidore ? It's a no brainer of a deal for us man.

It's hardly a no-brainer just on the basis that he is better than Altidore. 90% of the footballing population fall into the bracket.

It's my opinion, and that it may not be the players we currently have that are the problem. It may be the manager and his negativity/reluctance to change the way the team play. I'm far from convinced that chucking a load of money at someone like Defoe is going to instantly solve that problem.

I don't know when football fans became accountants and administrators. I'm a football fan, I want my team to do well, I will leave the business side to those getting paid to do their job. It's a simplistic view, maybe a naive view but I support my football team, the rest Im not really interested in.
They don't become accountants or do most no anything about running a business, they simply will moan and put a negative slant on anything.
Personally I'm well pleased about him signing.
