Defoe

If they didn't we would be in much more shit now I can tell you.

We're in the 8th consecutive relegation fight and get crowds of 40k plus. Short inherited a club with a low debt in the richest era in Premier League history. We've had 6 managers in 8 years.

We're in far more shit than we should be in.

But we couldn't have shifted Altidore unless Defoe left Toronto. And I don't see how else we would improve our forward line, the money isn't there to pay a transfer fee seemingly.
Any link to that about Defoe having to leave first. Want to read more on that, as how come other clubs have been linked?

Add to that, In the last 5 years we've spent the 8th most amount on players and 10th net spend. We are f***ing shite in the transfer market giving our league position.

Spent half of last season out injured and hes 32, paying him 70k a week is utterly stupid
None of us have any idea what he's being paid man. Whatever number you think, you need to subtract what we were paying Altidore.
Talking of injured players hows de Jong and Cisse?
Could have been worse, we could have signed De Jong, Cabella and Riviere for the thick end of 25m plus well over 100k pw for wages.
Canny business that mind.

Spurs (A) 0-1 (Defoe)
Burnley (H) 2-0 (Defoe x2)
Swansea (A) 0-1 (Defoe)
QPR (H) 3-0 (Defoe x3)
West Brom (H) 1-0 (Defoe)

Could be a great signing if he still has it and Poyet rethinks our tactics.
As others have said, i dont believe Defoe as a lone isolated striker, with little service will make a huge impact, unless Fletcher and Wickham really are that bad

Well said that man..!!

We could've load Altidore to any club in the MLS, I suspect. Weren't Lille in for him too? We couldn't get our money back, of course, but we didn't here either - Defoe isn't worth £6m.

We were led to believe that we had £14m earmarked for Borini in the summer. Assuming that was true, I'd like to think that £14m plus £80k pw could get you something better than a 32 year old from the MLS. And if it isn't, I'd sooner our short term option be a loan on £80k pw, and not a depreciating asset that we're lumbered with til 2018.

I'd have no issue at all if the contract length wasn't 3.5 years. As a panic buy, you could do a lot worse than Defoe. But his agent has pulled our trousers down with this contract.

I'm not excited I'm frustrated as we should have signed a striker in the summer.

It is too late to have a major impact this season although it should guarantee safety.

What would the honest reaction if he'd signed for the mags or one of our other relegation rivals? I'd be pretty pissed off if he was essentially a free signing with 30k wages like we have managed, it will all unfold in the next few weeks if he's still up to the job but I'm hopeful tbh, keep him fit and he'll score goals.
