Defoe

They have a real issue with him not performing during the spell at Sunderland. Strange. Denial most likely.

Plenty of quotes out now on Defoe and his eagerness to join. Hungry, point to prove and in very good condition, due to his training with Spurs and fitness sessions in France. Should be a brilliant mix. Let's not forget, it is a swap for Jozy Altidore!

Let that sink in.

We shouldn't believe reports but 70k a week for 32 year old is freaking insane and a complete sign of desperation like putting your last 100 quid on a roulette spin. Defoe has always been up and down and without some of his pace he used to have in a team that creates about two chances a game from open play the signing is a f***ing disaster IMHO.

I think it's better to look at it as 20k a week instead of Altidore.

No one can say we have not made the best of this situation.

Completely disagree with you. We have some decent players and can play well but are struggling to win games. We have recently gone flat and need a spark to fire up our season at a crucial time. Defoe generally has good movement and he is exactly what we need. Don't worry about the money, if he scores goals to get us up the league its worth it. We will never create chance for a totally immobile striker like Wickham has been and if we created chances for Altidore he just misses them. It's not desperation but, actually, a clever move.

while I'm far from convinced myself you say we shouldn't believe reports then go on a rant about something in reports

70k is insane for anyone but unfortunately that's the way it is today

This.

Are we there yet?

Really ? Altidore off the books, no transfer fee to pay, 20k extra for someone that can actually score goals , its a brilliant bit of business from the club

I have my reservations as well, not about the sums involved that's for others but Defoe always seemed prolific against the lesser teams but couldn't hack against the big boys but then our real problem this season has been our inability, palace excepted to kill off the lesser teams, let's see what happens shall we

f***ing smacks of desperation this, Poyet's last throw of the dice. A Big Mac style signing.

One of the myths of the SMB. 163 chances in 21 games according to which is just shy of 8 chances a game. Take the Mags game for instance, Wickham had 2 chances that Defoe would have finished off (albeit 1 wasn't from open play but it was still a position Defoe would have finished from)
