He has a powerful shot but for me he had to have a greater appreciation of team mates when they're in better placed positions. His finished was also erratic at times (likes a random smash at the near post with his left foot for example).

Looking at the clubs he's played for pretty much nails my theory. Haven't seen the stats again but I'm guessing majority of his England appearances came from the bench

Like I said, he is a very good striker and the best we could attract. However if you're going to compare him to one of the greatest strikers in the modern era then I am going to critique him harshly

The ops point is about playing in the current safc side, Defoe is 1 goal behind ur so called great ibra who's playing in a top 6 side. How is that taking 1 game in isolation

check the stats this season, Defoe is 1goal and 1 assist behind ibra, who's playing a team in a top 6 side, not a bottom 3 team

JD, he's restored my faith in modern football and I wouldn't swap him for anyone. Sorry if that sounds ott but plenty of players have failed to cut it here and Defoe is a gentleman and a top player even if in the twilight of his playing career.

Sigurdsson has more goals/assists combined this season than De Bruyne & Ozil. Who would you rather play for SAFC? :D

Ask the OP's question around the country and you'd get a fairly one sided, conclusive results. And not in the way you want
 
For me it has to be Defoe, I simply could not see Ibrahimovic doing what JD does in our current team. That and football aside I adore what Defoe has been doing for Bradley. If Defoe's goals manage to somehow keep us up this season, he will live in our memories for many years to come. I just don't think i'd feel the same if that was Ibrahimovic.

It isn't an insult to Defoe, he would score more in our team than Ibrahimovic. He wouldn't score more for Man United than Ibrahimovic has this seasont hough.
 
Ibra is a better player, one of the best strikers in the world but he'd look utter shite under us and he'd throw his toys out the pram very quickly due to the lack of service.

Defoe would be quality for Man Utd from the bench. He wouldn't dislodge Ibrahimovic though.

Agreed, they did it with Henrik Larsson, but they did have a decent manager in charge back then
 
Ibrahimovic is the bwtter player for sure. But if you're asking would I rather take him and put him into the current SAFC side without signing any other players then no I definitely wouldn't. In fact I would go as far as saying I wouldn't swap Defoe with anyone.

His attitude is spot on for playing in such a bad team...and not many of the world's best players would give you that. If we somehow manage to stay up agaim this season you can bet every last penny that JD will have played a massive part in it.
 
Saw an interesting stat the other day that for Defoe's goals he has had 23 shots on target compared to Ibra who has had 40

Can you imagine the hissy-fit's Ibra would have had playing in some of our games. Hopefully he would have drop-kicked a few of the useless kernts over the season.

Defoe all day long for me, he's a great fit for our club.

It's not as simple as stats, Vardy was the same last year with the stats, in fact his stats were better than some players who he was still not as good as and he is not good enough to get in Man United side either.

Defoe has been exceptional but to compare him with Zlatan is laughable tbh.

And if this was on any other forum than a Sunderland one it would just be laughed at.

There is nowt like a biased supporters forum to totally get things out of context.

Read the op thread, he's not comparing directly, he said who would you rather have in safc current team. Defoe creates his own chances due to pace and movement. Defoe has 1 less goal than ibra in a shite team

The op question isn't who's the better player, it's who would you rather have in safc current side. Ask that question around the country and they wouldn't care.
