David Bruce leaving SAFC

I'm a bit surprised at this, but probably follows wider shake ups like the one that meant Speakman left the club. KLD has a plan and the means to get it , we've seen it time and time again with playing staff and upstairs. He generally gets it right.

I think in previous years this would have been a bad omen - but the leadership were blessed seem to have their heads screwed on (farage aside).

Either way though, David Bruce - take a bow lad! Local lad who done fantastic stuff for the club and made a fantastic impact!

This feels like this could create a bit of disconnect between the people and the club.

Our city has never been more aligned to the club but I feel like this is because the man at the top was part of the city himself. I'm sure Kyril has a range of great contacts all over the world but they'll never create a connection with the people like someone from the region can (and has done).

Or, he could have proven to his family that he can turnaround a distressed asset and have them buy Marseille back for him to run? Frank McCourt has opened the door for new investment so, may be about to sell?
I know there's the emotional attachment to Marseille, and he obviously supported them growing up, but would they be a good investment? Could he take them to the heights that they once had? I don't genuinely know as haven't a clue about French footy or Marseille in particular.
Also, wasn't his mam forced out of the club? So maybe a bit bad blood there.

I was at a conference and a bloke specialises in building multiple huge businesses.

He said the team that takes you from 0 to 20m cannot take you to 100m and those who do cannot take you to 500m.

He says they all know it, they understand once they get to a certain point they will be replaced.
I don’t agree with that in the workplace!

I honestly don’t know mate. I doubt the money is there to be made as there is in this country but, conversely, it probably wouldn’t need as much investment to really challenge as it would over here.
I was just thinking out loud, really.

He’s supposedly not very liked within the club

Not what I've seen from my dealings with him like. And regardless, he's delivering for the club (and the wider city).

Feels to me like it's a move towards becoming a big commercial organisation, and a move away from the club in the community. Maybe that's gonna make us great on the pitch and be able to complete with the top club - but it might alienate me along the way (a price they'll pay for 50 new US fans or whatever in my place!)

Yep, exactly. They've fed us the guff about giving us a Sunderland that we recognise but that can change very quickly.

If Sadiki left tomorrow, I’d back our recruitment team to find the answer. That’s what we’re built for.

Bruce is a different problem entirely. A boyhood Sunderland fan who left a career at the top of the MLS to come home. You’re not finding that profile again. That person simply doesn’t exist.

And it matters because so much of what’s reconnected this club with its fanbase these past two years isn’t replicable by just hiring a competent CEO. A lot of it happened because it was Bruce.
