David Bruce leaving SAFC

If Sadiki left tomorrow, I’d back our recruitment team to find the answer. That’s what we’re built for.

Bruce is a different problem entirely. A boyhood Sunderland fan who left a career at the top of the MLS to come home. You’re not finding that profile again. That person simply doesn’t exist.

And it matters because so much of what’s reconnected this club with its fanbase these past two years isn’t replicable by just hiring a competent CEO. A lot of it happened because it was Bruce.
Excellent post.

It very much starting to feel like this doesn't it. Good start to next season may accelerate the sales process even further

I don’t think so, it all feels like a strategy for growth and sustainability.
Having said that Iam not convinced we won’t just become numbers.
People who’s life long support means nothing when it comes to prices and moving you out of seats etc.
That lack of sentiment will make us like any other Premiership club.
When you are an aspiring championship club you have to be careful what you wish for.
Let’s just see where the journey takes us… has to be better than being a yo-yo club

Nothing would have happened without KLD and to a lesser extent Sartori

Burwell has an interesting sporting background

7s and F1

On the face of it, neither are the most successful sports commercially are they? F1 had the Netflix rise, but suffering massively from the fact the product was a bit shit for years and casual fans drifted off. 7s has kind of dropped off a map in recent years - used to be sold out at Twickenham every year, but they don't do that anymore right? (Obviously not all attributing anything to the new man!)

Good post. All we can do is hope they get the next move right.

F1 isn't suffering massively like (whether you think the product is good or not). Huge influx of casual fans which has continued to balloon.

Hes only interim anyway

Why would you think this?

Improving this isn't necessarily entwined with a sale.
I didn't say it was. But the number of changes taking place in key positions as well as everything else that they've changed at the Club may be simply helping us to survive in the PL, but those are also the changes that you would make in terms of prepping a business for sale. Realistically I can't see KLD being a long term investor. Typically a Private Equity investor would look to exit in 3-5 years. Of course we have to be in the PL for that to happen

Chelsea tried to do everything they can to hire him when he left the MLS (another PL team offered him a job too), but he turned them down for us in the Championship because he is a Sunderland lad.

He also attended the city board meetings representing the club about the regeneration in the city. I'll be interested to see if the new man takes such an active role with that.

Sorry aye. Genuinely interested who the main person will be - assume a fairly big name of some sort.

This feels like this could create a bit of disconnect between the people and the club.

Our city has never been more aligned to the club but I feel like this is because the man at the top was part of the city himself. I'm sure Kyril has a range of great contacts all over the world but they'll never create a connection with the people like someone from the region can (and has done).
Definitely a good point. I’m interested to see how this progresses

Brian Marwood still lives locally, and Managing Director of Global Football for Citeh. Could do worse than appoint him with his experience, and maybe a Lads fan with coming from Seaham. He may want to take a more local role than a global one?

Bang on.

You have got F1 very wrong. F1 teams are the biggest sporting teams in the world outside of some of the big American sports teams.
It is on a different planet when compared to little old Sunderland
