Danny Dyer talks sense

Funny how problem from the likes of Carlisle, when deciding to support someone else other than Carlisle, randomly always seem to land on Manchester United or Liverpool, and never Bolton or Hull. Or even Everton or wolves .
Hull would be a queer choice from Carlisle, a right trek , especially in the winter .

Epitome of glory hunters, I don’t even engage in football conversation with him, absolutely pointless

Don't need a celebrity to tell me- glory supporters are absolute losers and have a weakness of personality.

And they largely contribute to football being worse than what it should be.

ABSOLUTE LOSERS

What are you arguing though? I take it from your kids that you think it's fine to support a team who isn't local to you but if you read through the replies, or just what Dyer was arguing then you won't find many people actually agreeing with you.

They are saying if you're born in X then you can't support Y, doesn't matter family connections or history. There is some basic level "support your local team" logic going on. Which if truly applied should mean way more people supporting lower league teams instead of people being glory supporters of PL teams and would also mean a team like Sunderland can only have fans within pretty much the City of Sunderland.
 I’m not arguing I just responded to the points that you made.

I’m not fussed if Danny or other people don’t agree.

Many people where we live will watch burton Albion (league 1 local) but also have season tickets at derby. Does Danny agree with that as I’m confused now.

No you can't put Irish fans in that same box.... London has a load of clubs and if you are English you've most likely grown up with football.
In Ireland it wasn't a big sport at all and part of segregation so it makes sense they could follow an English team.
It depended on where you lived. In Dublin you'd have plenty of teams to go and see, not to mention the national team. Cork always had strong football contentions as does the north west and north east and of course Belfast which would be similar to Dublin.

In the Midlands, you had no teams nearby and very little access to football other than TV. Then you had the GAA strongholds were the game was seen as a foreign or colonial game and would do whatever to block the sports growth.

But the League of Ireland is growing and attendances are on the up. Hopefully with the Irish League moving to summer football it will grow too.

So why didn't they randomly chose sunderland? It's closer then Manchester
Cos the bloke in question had no connection to Sunderland either. Lets face it if youre picking a team at random you might as well pick an easy one .. Maybe he fancied Nobby Styles or summat 🤷🏻

Only time ik is if it’s family related know loads of die hard Sunderland fans not from the area who’s dads got them into it , but over point is right , the glory fans will never feel what we felt when Ballard scored or Wembley etc

He is meaning the likes of some cockney east end geezer supporting likes of Man U or Liverpool, or now City, with no links at all.

I've couple mates who support Spurs and QPR, no reason but they just did from young.

It should be the area you're from or your dad's team.
I live in Northampton where there's a big Irish population. A lot of the 1st Generation lot supported Man Utd so therefore their kids do. I think that's fair enough. School however in Wolverhampton in the 70's 80's there were hardly any die hard Wolves fans especially when we dropped through the leagues. Its nice to go back now and see loads of kids wearing the tops I just hope we can keep the young un's coming through especially as we are struggling at the moment.

Whilst I mostly agree with what he’s saying, there’s one thing he hasn’t considered. I was born in Sunderland and support Sunderland, that was never a choice, it just was.

However, my son was born in Nottingham and also supports Sunderland. My wife is from Nottingham and all her family are Forest fans. So, based on Danny Dyer’s thinking, he should be a Forest fan?
No I think he means people who choose random clubs . Your boy supports his dad’s team . That for me isn’t what he’s saying
