Dan Neil

I agree. You see what Xhaka is capable of doing in those scenarios, he demands the ball even when he's covered and can immediately play the ball to someone who can make things happen. It's unreasonable to expect a young lad to operate at that level of footballing brain but that's what we need at this level.

It's no shame on him not being up to this level on a regular basis and it's great credit to him that he's had 200 appearances and been a captain at the age of 24. Ultimately the club gave him a great deal of support and responsibility to help him develop and he's given great service in return. We'd all have loved if he'd pushed on like Henderson but there's no evidence that he will and given that no other PL clubs are in for him suggests that the all agree. Hopefully he'll achieve great things over the next decade and he continues to be a fan of the club.
Is it? He's 24.

I think ya just need someone better than him.

I found this online, I think it illustrates the things you allude to very well:-

A good footballer has talent and consistency, but a
great footballer transcends the game with superior vision, decision-making, relentless work ethic, and the ability to consistently influence matches, often under pressure, making decisive plays when others tire and demanding respect through impact, not just skill. Greatness stems from deep game understanding, mental fortitude, and transforming moments through exceptional choices, making them game-winners who carry responsibility.

Don’t think anyone really has a problem with Dan Neil like. He’ll want more minutes on the pitch but RLB doesn’t think he’s as good as other options, so we won’t be offering first 11 wages - so he’ll want to leave for more minutes and is therefore running his contract down if not sold.

It’s standard and happens everywhere.

He goes with my best wishes when he does leave as I do think he’s a very good championship standard CM. Whether he’s good enough for the prem I don’t think so, but I thought that about O’Nien, Cirkin & Ballard too and they’ve started well - Ballard especially.

RLB clearly doesn’t think Neil is good enough for his system either so it’s a bit of a waste keeping him beyond this season imo.
I agree with all this apart from Ballard. I thought he would be good enough before his injury.

He’ll run it down and get a nice lump for whoever he signs for.
Question is can we get some money out of it.

'Should be a legend'
Listen to yourself man, a legend because he helped get us out of the third division and promoted from the second tier?
Don't make me laugh. I think YOUR standards are subterranean. This is a historic old club that should be established in the top flight and not accepting anything less.
Local Legend

Most of Gary Rowells and Charlie Hurley and Bobby Kerrs, and Ian Porterfields careers were outside the top league.
Marco took us from league 1 to top league .
This is a poor argument by your standards.
Everyone in that team last year is a legend to me much as the FACup team was.
They bust an absolute gut to basically end their career with the club. They deserve respect for that, not being vilified.
In fact those 5 or so players who brought us from 1st division to premiership deserve a bloody statue for what they have done for us. Some of them are not Premiership standard but that is not relevant to your point.
Respect is the right word
I’m pleased he was subbed in the playoff final. The game changed then

That’s the whole idea of subs 👍

Exactly

Some of them are actually gettjnt mocked
That cuts out Luke O'Nien then 🥵

*Unless you can take criteria 4 from 5 🤔

*Although most Club legends only had 4 out of 5 🤔

Yep

All these ridiculous negative posters just lose it when they called out for it. It’s Hillarious

We have spent the majority of how time in the 2nd division since the 1950s

Statue for Club legend Tommy Watson 😉

Another thread ruined by the inability by the usual suspect who is unable to accept that posters may have a different opinion to theirs. Calling Neil a club legend is absolutely crackers mind.
Kevin Phillips - Golden boot for Europe - club legend.
Jim Montgomery - record 627 home town club appearances and the greatest ever save in an FA Cup final - club legend.
Bobby Gurney - All time leading goalscorer who's 228 goals led to Champions of England status in 1936 - club legend.
Dan Neil - recommended by @MustardAndOnions - club legend

My type of player/leader. 👍

Surely Niall Quinn should be high on that list...he practically saved the club. What that man done for our club goes well under the radar imo.

How remiss of me.

They have my utmost respect for what they achieved, indeed Le Feé, Ballard, Hume, Mayenda and to a less proven extent, Isidor and Cirkin, continue to develop as we all hope they will. That's half a team.
There are some on here though who think that any contribution to the dramatic reversal of club fortunes entitles them to starting place and actually qualifies them for legend status!!!
This is pure nonsense.

They all have my thanks but they have to be good enough. Some clearly are not.

All players who got us from league 1 to the prem are yeah.

Keep your hate up for them, only makes you look foolish.

A very very quick search of your posting history shows that you wanted KLD out only last year   As did several of the posters liking your last

So thankfully not agreeing with you and those others jokers is a badge of honour for me.
If you think Dan is a legend what does that make quinny

They all are. Neil, Patto, LON, Roberts, Hume and Cirkin.

LON knows. Fuck the haters luke, theyd twist on 19 let’s be honest

No we haven't - you're selling us short.

Including the current one, since 1950 we've spent 39 seasons in the top flight, and 38 out of it (5 in the third tier).

Even with the disaster of the past 8 years, we've spent far more time in the top flight over the past 30 years than outside of it.

Yet you constantly slag off the 10 years we had under Short which was the longest spell we had in the top flight since the 50s

You pretty much seem not appreciate any player who has done anything for us, your posts on JOS and Larsson and co reflect this

Lighten up ffs, its meant to be fun football you know.

Do I? You been keeping notes like, cos I'm not so sure I do.

I have a lot of time for John O'Shea and probably even more so Seb Larsson, so I think you're confusing me with someone else to be honest.

 I think it's you who needs to lighten up, getting yaself all het up over a bench warmer.

Not at all

Just a nice reminder that the loudest few on this forum don’t reflect the wider fan base that’s all.

Luke’s insta post says it all! Legends!
