Dan Neil

Mowbray said he did

Yeah things change, you know RLB Doesnt

He doesn’t care about any of that he just picks who he thinks can do the job for him

He’s brutal
I think he would too.

Theres been games where if he had a future here it would have made sense for him to come on.

This is just not remotely true tho

Just because you think he should Doesnt mean RLB does

No way on earth RLB would change his mind based on that

I think all this talk of it not being fair on him, that he deserves his chance or that he has been thrown under the bus by Le Bris doesn't take into account what we have come to understand about the management and coaching team.

They are data led. KLD said in his recent interview that they did a lot of analysis on what happened to promoted teams over recent seasons to identify characteristics of those who managed to stay up/thrive and those that got immediately relegated. He said they got “a lot” of data out of that exercise. This has obviously strongly affected the brilliant recent recruitment strategy - they know the characteristics of the players who will have a chance in the Premier League.

This will, I suspect, play a part in why Dan Neil hasn’t had a chance yet. This data will surely have told them that the better players in centre midfield will need to be able to cover x ground in a match, have the ability to sprint at x speed x times a game, have x progressive passes, etc. Whatever it is, they will have that profile AND much more detailed data on where Dan Neil (and every other member of the squad) stands against the bechmarks. And that’s before he’s even observed in training up against the massive step up in quality he has around him.

So no, he hasn’t had much chance to show what he can do, but if the underlying data suggests that he will struggle in a centre mid position with the attributes that he has, and the coaching staff see with their own eyes how he’s been performing in training, they aren’t going to rush to put him in there. Especially when the coach has other options.

Yes, it could be related to his stance on his contract or anything else, but even then I don’t think they would hold that against him if they thought putting him on the pitch would increase the chances of winning points.

We’re a long way away from Reidy (bless him) falling out with players at the drop of a hat and those God-awful ‘scouts’ leaving a match early because our potential recruitment target had gloves on. 😠

I have loved watching Dan Neil progress with the team over the past few seasons, and it was brilliant that he captained us to promotion. But if our coaching staff don’t think he’s good enough for the Prem, it will be for very good reason. And that’s more than good enough for me.

Good post. Agreed

My only thing was he could have been used occasionally to help out

But you are right that’s why he’s not playing. Can’t argue with RLB like tbf

This idea thar if hed sighed a 3 year deal in the champ he would have played. I mean LON signed in summer and has not played anymore.

The move would be risky for Neil, the pressure to play at Rangers is massive and I’m not convinced the fans will take to him, similar mould to Rothwell who was a disaster.
Amad was a flop with Rangers .Got to have a Braveheart to succeed up there in Scottyland, give the lad his FREEDOOOOMMMM to succeed elsewhere ! 🤣

Le bris doesn’t rate Neil, quite clearly.

He served a purpose last season.
I’m sure it’s nothing personal at all but if Regis doesn’t fee Neil can do what he needs him to do then he’s absolutely correct not to play him.

My own personal opinion is that Neil just isn’t quite up the level, technically, to play in our midfield.

There’s no disgrace in that and he probably can play in the Premier League. Just not in this team.

But Rigg has a lot more potential than Neil, he is also a more valuable player and PL experience will only positively increase his price tag. Granted the performances have got to be there.

I thought Neil was canny in the championship but he was far from dominating, was regularly caught on the ball against weaker opposition and the consistency wasn't there. I did hope he'd develop into a decent PL squad player, but it's clear that either the club don't fancy him (they see him day in, day out), or he himself wants away in which case, what's the point of playing him? We'll end up getting a nominal fee for the lad, which is a shame. It'll be interesting to see where he ends up and how he progresses.
I agree with pretty much all of this, I also hoped he could have developed into that squad player. I’m not saying he’d definitely be good enough, it’s just a shame how the whole situation has developed.
Since when is Neil a RW...?
Since when was Rigg?

The more Rigg plays the less his price tag becomes, He’s been poor for a long time Rigg. He hasn’t improved one bit.
Aye at RW, he looks lost out there. He probably has improved, but not to a standard where he should be involved in every game just because he needs minutes. Needs to go out on loan and play in CM.

He will have undoubtedly improved since training with better players. He's just playing at a much higher standard so it doesn't show as much

Im not so sure about that me like keep seeing things like him training with Xhaka etc will make him a better player but i disagree because you simply have to be playing on a regular basis in a matchday environment to improve not training ground drills and games.

He could train with better standard of players week in week out like he is now and barely play or play with lesser standard of players lets say the championship and get 20 games under his belt and he would of improved a million times quicker that way. Its the whole point of the loan system really. Nobody gets better by just training week in week out you need to actually play games to improve

Spot on. He'll develop better playing in his preferred position at a level where he'll flourish, which I don't think we can give him. He's a CM and needs to learn that role first, before being trusted to play out of position.

.you have to wonder how many amazing football stories that are part of why we love the game are now dead because the players, game plans, wonder shots etc. wouldn't get past the 'data' net and wouldn't be allowed
