Dan Neil

He didn't play well last night, but I disagree anyway that Neil is a better option on the wing.

Riggs' last few starts right side have been absolutely lifting. He's barely had a good 20 mins all season.

I don't understand why anyone in a midfield area would he considered less worthy of a start than him at the moment. I don't see how it's currently helping his development.

One of the main arguments for his poor form is that he's out of position as well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again I'd play him ahead of Rigg even at RW. Ideally I don't want either of them playing there.
There's times recently Neil should have been brought on, Fulham and City away especially.
He’d certainly be physically bigger and stronger, even if he’s not as skilfull

A lot of people forgetting DN has spent time at lb, lm, rw and am. He can cover positions.

He could have been given more game time over the last few weeks definitely but it is what it is. Seems apparent that the writing is on the wall for him.
He really hasnt. He played a couple of games left back when under johnson in league 1 (thanks rocky) when we hand no left back available, he has played about 99% of his games in CM. He would look awful out on the wing in my opinion, though im suprosed he has had 0 mins in the middle even as a sub

I completely understand why they pick Rigg over Neil - one is younger, has a higher ceiling and has a long term contract. The other might be gone in a few weeks time.
But there's no reason to have frozen Neil out as they have, he was our captain until this season, he's a local lad and has done a fine job for us. Maybe not a starter, but fresh legs from 80mins could have been useful this past month, you'd think. Suppose we'll never really know what's gone on behind closed doors though.
Games have been too tight. As they have been for the majority of the season.

If we were more comfortable in games we maybe could have done that, but we haven't been. We've needed our best players on the pitch to see games out.

Think about it. It's 1-1 away to Spurs. The game's in the balance. Do you take Xhaka off for a ten minute rest and give Neil a run out? I don't think so.

Disagree, Fulham away was a prime example imo. He should have been brought on that day

I think the club want Cirkin to renew though, whereas they’re not arsed if Neil leaves.

We also don’t actually have another LB at the club as they’ve both been away at AFCON. Neil would’ve played if we’d have injuries to Xhaka & Gerty.

Yeah some fair points

Just feel like he hasnt helped Xhaka and our other midfielders by flogging them for every minute

He’ll get an opportunity on Saturday to show he is worthy of a starting place/more of a sub role.

Always difficult in a disjointed patched up team but let’s be honest he was average (Neill) v huddersfield in the league cup

I like Neill l, always have but clearly those watching training every day don’t think he is up to it

Ages ago that, and I can't really remember how it went other than we lost. Ya might be right, I dunno.

I'm talking more recently. Would you have brought him on against City or Spurs?

All I'm saying is the way certain games have gone, there hasn't been many ideal occasions to bring him on.

Mind I thought there was an argument to bring him on against Leeds - and I said as much at the time.

I would agree that his performances have been below par, but I think yourself and some others are being overly harsh. I get it's about opinions though.

I just think that Neil would really struggle on the wing in the PL - he's even slower than Rigg so feel like up against teams with a good full backs / wingers he would struggle.

I'd much prefer for him to play on Sat in CM alongside Xhaka and Le Fee. But I do also understand if Le Bris knows he is 100% leaving then he may be reluctant to play him because let's face it - he's not a world beater is he.

If he had 18 months left on his contract for example he would have been used a lot more, its that simple.
Not convinced. I don't think we're that petty as a club, and Regis certainly isn't that petty as a coach.

For all he's been "frozen out", he's been involved in every matchday squad this season.
