Dalian Atkinson - Police on trial

Haven't read the thread. Didn't realise they were a couple at the time
Aye.
I was under the impression that old bill couples couldn’t serve in the same station. If I was part of an old bill pairing I’d be making sure we were in different stations reet now. If only a tiny bit of his reaction was motivated by protecting his GF it’s contributed to ruining three lives.
An awful situation all round.

Aye this. I think we all would react somewhat differently with a partner next to us

The same could be said about friends. Would you be more bothered about someone you were shagging or someone who was your best mate for 15 years?

I’ve already said on this thread I’ve known couples, married couples, parents/kids, siblings & relatives work together. I’d imagine it would now be discriminatory to not allow people to partner up.

Are you talking about working together in general or in a front line emergency service? Whether it’d be legal to stop couples working together in the old bill or not I think common sense would prevail if a cop couple looked at this case with cold hard logic.
An ex GFs sister was old bill and their parents had to really work hard on them to get the BF to request a transfer across the city. Her parents were emergency services anarl. Love is blind marra.

Working together, partnered up on shift.

I’ve got no issue with it.

I know this situation is a little different however if we're talking about the lengths someone will go to help their oppo out in a really bad situation id expect my oppo to put their life on the line for me as i would do the same for them.
This attitude is expected in the firearms/specialist role department.
This attitude however appears to be slowly fading away with the newest recruits.

I feel your pain.
We’re getting some recruits refusing to get their COVID jabs because they don’t want to get sent to airport security teams. Absolutely reprehensible behaviour.

I know of people who’ve said that depending on who puts in the code zero they’ll finish their brew 😂 That’s probably relatable for you 😂

I know of a shift where 95%+ are anti vax/Covid deniers. Already planning their job exits in case of forced jabs.

Back to the relevance of the thread, I honestly thought he’d have got done for murder. Very surprised he hasn’t been.

As I said consistently throughout this thread, none of us knew the evidence other than what’s been reported in the news.
It’s tragic that someone has lost their life. Just as tragic that someone who had the responsibility for protecting life has been convicted.
I would expect him to appeal though.

Maybe if he'd told the truth from the beginning he wouldn't have been found guilty....

How do you know he didn't? A jury found his actions were not proportionate, he felt they were. That doesn't mean he lied

They are the same standards for everyone as prescribed by law.
Because he said he didn't kick him in the head yet his shoelace imprint was in his face, he also has "no recollation" of standing with his foot on his head yet others had seen him.

I once had to wrestle a knife from someone very mentally ill...I bruised both their arms but could not remember doing anything that would have harmed the poor soul.
