“Sunderland till I die....

unless we’ve lost a couple of games so I’ll go in a huff and not go to the most important home game of the season

unless I get an extra game included with my season card for free

unless the match isn’t on TV as I’d rather go to the pub.”

Wonder how many who were at Wembley or Trafalgar Square and telling anyone who would listen they were “Sunderland Till I Die” have been found wanting when we could do with proper support when it matters? With the exception of those who genuinely can’t afford it or, have commitments, there’s no excuse to not go. I don’t believe 10,000 people have suddenly remembered they’ve got work on Saturday nights/live miles away/wedding or birthday parties to go to etc.. and can’t make it. The vast majority have chosen not to go. Sunderland When I Can Be Arsed more like it.
Still 3 days left but it is less than you'd expect. However let's be honest, most are only bothered about how this looks to others. The SoL with 25K home supporters who genuinely want to be there provides as good an atmosphere as it does with the 15K extra who turn up just expecting to be entertained.

Reasons/excuses for a low turnout are each person's business, but it will be a combination of game on TV, low expectations/deflation after such a poor end to the season, and prices/finances. Also need to account for all the concessions/£25 season tickets which in many cases are little more than fillers, where the seats go unused or where people simply aren't going to bring their toddlers to a Saturday night game, esp if they are planning a few pints beforehand.

And yes, there will be many who won't go to this who will clamour for Wembley tickets if we get there. That's always the way (and was especially true in the Checkatrade, considering the attendances we got for that in some of the previous games).

20054

2k sold since yesterday late afternoon.

at that rate probably sell another 4k-5k . add on away fans, coorperates and pay-on-the-gates will probably end up 25-27k

bit disappointing but not the end of the world.

its quality over quantity. been in some shit atmospheres at full houses over the years. even portsmouth home game the other week, the empty blocks of rows at the back of the east stand where me and the lads usually congregate, and have been all season, was chocka with randomers. great i thought, at least its filling up, but they never made a peep all match.

I always thought "fan" was short for fanatic, someone who wants to go to every game etc. Supporter covers a range of things, from supporting in the ground to just occasionally supporting financially by buying a bit of merchandise. Always considered a fan to be more committed than a supporter due to the definitions
Nah, I'm a fan (it is short for fanatic), not really a supporter. Don't get to many home games (so no money supporting there), if I go away the away club gets the money, and I don't buy much from the club, so hardly a supporter.

I’m at graft and gutted I’m missing it.

However, unless it’s just me, a lot of supporters I know seem to be seeing the game as a chore and don’t seem confident, enthusiastic considering the importance of it.

I think the end of this season deflated a few supporters. And maybe the cost of another trip to Wembley.

Wembley demand will be there- christ this is the important one not the bastard checkatrade

Not very fanatical either then tbh. Imagine a fanatical Muslim who never bothered going to his mosque, or a fanatical Christian who never went to church. "The atrocity was carried out by a Christian, who many say was fanatical" "aye, that's right enough, he was a fanatic, he had a copy of the Bible and occasionally read a page or two, think he might even have gone to mass on Christmas day once or twice, and I could have sworn I heard him say bless you when he sneezed". You do, however, sometimes go to games and give vocal support, so definitely a supporter

I am going but not at all confident , that said I never am , can’t understand people who can go but decide to give it a miss. Massive game just remember the mess we were in 12 month ago , that team would be in league 2 now.

Only want our hardcore there. Them Pompey fans took the piss a few weeks ago. I want the SoL to be a wall of noise. I hope those going took note of Anfield last night, their fans literally sucked the ball into the net. That’s what we need on Saturday because the team and manager are shite.

Bought my season ticket seat, so I'll be there providing my cricket match finishes early enough. Like many, I'm not feeling overly confident after the past few weeks but hoping we can pull ourselves through. If we can repeat our performance against Pompey a couple of weeks ago, I think we'll take a lead into the 2nd leg.

Deflated is the word.

No, but you must realise it's a lot different. A lot of people wouldn't be able to afford that journey, or get the time off work for such a journey on a Thursday. The game on Saturday is at a great time, close for most Sunderland supporters and is a massive game, can't understand someone who would go to a pub in the town centre rather than get themselves over to the SoL!
I think it is a shit time for a football match.

I won't be going due to being away this weekend. I would have gone for the sake of it but must admit I'm not really bothered.
