County Cricket 2024

Sam Cook surely someone England should be looking at this summer.

10/73 with a Kookaburra is some going. He's been consistently one of the best bowlers on the circuit for a while now.

Now lets see if the ECB deduct Essex 10 of their 20 points.

he's too slow like, you dont need to be fast but you cant be his pace

Bowls as fast as Robinson has done for England and as fast as Philander did.

It's certainly why he's not been looked at, Rushy too. Neither great with the bat too.

Not saying he gets in team but worth them having a look at. As we all thought about Rushy.

Robinson is only decent when he is proper fit and bowling faster, doesnt do much at that pace

He is a good bowler but I just dont see it myself

Both Essex opening bowlers are very effective county bowlers and incredibly similar actions. I think what Robinson has over them is height and the bounce he gets bowling at a similar speed to the two Essex boys.
Mind i think i know which two work harder in the gym.

TBF Robinson is lean now and works hard

Bowlers get injured, I dont think its lack of effort but maybehe just cant hack it. been 3 tests where Robinson has not been able to finish matches

You can't have that, especially when Jimmy barely bowls much in a day either

Robinson seems to get out of condition quickly and lacks natural fitness. It seems to take an age for him to get back to peak performance after an injury.

2022 he looked fantastic, bowling at low to mid 80s. During the Ashes and in India he struggled to get above 78mph.

I think he is a lad who needs to be kept active but dropped two many clangers in his career through being unprofessional to be left to his own devices. He is certainly no natural athlete like Jimmy. With his ability it takes some doing to get released by 2 counties.

We've only got four seam bowlers that have played more than 13 tests for England still active

Anderson 41 going on 42
Woakes 35
Wood 34
Robinson 30

So we've got to look at the next generation, as the above all can't be relied on going forward. Woakes already can't be used away, Jimmy will be gone by 2026 and Wood is only ever one injury away from missing months.

Even within the next generation which I still include Robinson in that, a lot of the below are injured for the foreseeable (Archer, Tongue and Stone especially)

Robinson 30
Stone 30
Archer 29
Overton's 28
Carse 28
Mahmood 27
Tongue 26
Cook 26
Fisher 26
Curran 25
Potts 25
Turner 22
Lawes 21

Potts is clearly next in line and should see him this summer a lot. But after him Cook has his hand up the most in terms of sheer numbers and those that watch him regularly, Lawes will no doubt come into the fold soon too.

Yeah, its interesting debate, last year he is 100% fitter from going to gym, you can see that just by looking at him

However, that has not translated to extra speed or fitness in games. It might not be his fault, but he keeps pulling up in tests

I think he is a good bowler but I'd honestly move away from him, I dont think he can be trusted.

I get all that mate, I just dont think he is an international bowler personally, very highly skilled, but when Robinson's pace is down, he is poor at international level, Cook needs to get quicker, as I say not a speedster but quicker

I think England have made a mess of the bowling transition, I think its just me who thinks this, Jimmy played 4 ashes tests, was far too many, Broad played all 5, too many.

in India too, we have badly badly lacked a young workhorse bowler who can bowl all day. Jimy is still magic but he barely actually bowls.

Everyone focuses on the batting but the bowling management has been poor for me.

Above are the options out there. I'm sure I've missed someone but I can't think of any others we've not already used or been in lions training camp/squads.

Christ looking at some of those ages its frightening how quick time is passing i thought Stone was mid 20s and Tongue and Mahmood about 23/24.

He has a long history of indiscipline and his attitude in India was the final straw. If he can be consistently effective for Sussex early season then maybe worthy of reconsideration.

Poor Zain-Ul-Hassan for Glamorgan at Lords out in both innings for a total of 7 runs.

When over 1200 runs scored and nearly every batsman faced 50+ deliveries in the first innings.

He wasnt unfit though in India, he;d been working hard, they just did not organise any games for him

What attitude did he have in India? unless I have missed somethin.
I'm 31 myself and it doesn't feel like 5 mins since I was 21 and just about to finish university.

I also remember Ollie Robinson FC debut against ourselves well and that was somehow 9 years ago.

I agree on both points mate, depressing.
