County Cricket 2024

Oh right i only managed to watch a session of the uni match on YouTube and the young lad, "Rob" was commentating with Thorpe.
Think Rob is pretty decent, seems to have become a Durham fan which even better. He's also been doing the job while still studying at Uni, course likely just about to finish.

He'll have no doubt been doing the job on a voluntary basis too.

As someone that did Journalism at uni I know first hand how hard graft it is and how difficult it is to break into it(as I did not).

I'd be sad if Marty has been replaced, seeing as they had him, Ash and Rob last season. Better having more voices, but cost cutting is rife everywhere in business.

I know Marty was one of the last actual BBC employees to do the county commentaries most where just freelance doing it via the BBC comnentary feed. Not sure if the "in house" youtube streams has made the commentary only a bit redundant.
I suppose we will find out at 11am tomorrow or whatever time they start.

I am beginning to get nervous with all these predictions. I'd rather no one noticed us coming up on the rail and bursting through.

I’m glad you said that, or someone did, because I started to think similar - I remember when we won it in 2013 all the ‘experts’ predicted we’d go down.

Not sure what I’d rather have?

That’s because it was being done by the club, not the Beeb. I fully expect Marty to be on comms tomorrow. Feel like he’d have let us know if he’d been replaced.

I have seen the PR Media lad at Durham asking on Twitter for aspiring commentators in the area. Could be opportunities this year he says. So I wonder if Marty is still doing the BBC radio comms but the club are putting their own comms on the stream?

I agree with the opinion on Rob Rush though. I’ve always enjoyed listening to him when he’s been there.

So no Marty on stream but still doing the BBC commentary then.

Odd but whatever I guess.

Is this a new thing they are launching then? Marty will be purely wireless then, most will have stream on I bet.

Think other counties have been doing that. It's OK but you only get a pro durham voice, which doesn't give you the full flavour IMHO. And when it's an away match you don't get a pro durham voice at all, at least at some Counties.

Yep, Lancs have got Bumble on comms today. Although he's not going to have much cricket to talk about.

5Live Extra look like they're covering a game pretty much all through the season (unless there's something else on the channel) with Kevin Howells hosting. I wonder if that's going to be going round the country, Soccer Six (sort of) style?
