County Cricket 2024

It should be 2 from him, Jimmy and Woakes and given the fixtures this summer it’s an idea opportunity to back and blood Potts. Robinson could still come back in as well but by the sounds of it he’s on thin ice fitness wise now

On Surrey: _A key feature of Surrey’s recent rise is the strength and depth of the homegrown core of their squad, with 10 of the 19 players who featured in championship cricket last summer qualifying on that count. Expect to see more evidence of that close-knit squad identity in this campaign"

But remember, we don't produce players, we just sign them according to certain clowns ...

While I agree with every preview I've seen I do think Durham have a really strong squad in all departments, I'm just becoming wary of all these good previews. We're not underdogs this season. When the season starts you never know what might happen, "lightning always strikes out of a clear blue sky".

Genuine question. Do Surrey produce the players or is it the fee playing schools in the Surrey conurbation that develop them from raw? How many of the "locals" in the squad come from state schools?

It tends to be that Surrey will develop them, then pay to send them to private schools like Whitgift as part of a scholarship deal

Well we are better than Worcs and I can't see how Kent will be better than us.

Will be interesting to see how we fare with the step up against the remaining sides.

Hampshire bowling unit is as good as it gets, so will be a good litmus test first up for us. Think we only play Surrey once towards end of season.

Yeah rather predictably they were spared the arduous journey to the frozen wastelands of the North East.
They also avoid playing Essex twice again.

Edit: or not the Google fixtures list didn't go far enough. Final game of the season for their away fixture to Essex.

I think Durham will be very competitive and even had a wager on them. My only concern is that the 2nd division was so poor last season that most of the counties in the 1st divison would have done what Durham did last season.
We probably have 4 or 5 key players who have to be available and perform at the level they did last season and another 2 or 3 have to up their consistency. As ever with the recent fixture structure its vital you hit form in April and May.

I know it’s a obvious statement but it’s all about keeping their fast bowlers fit and available, that is pivotal to how the season goes

Good news for Durham that Stokes is playing CC
.

Alot of interviews on Sky Sports News today with players including Hartley and Robinson

Been a good number of podcasts to choose from with season previews.

So far got that one, Sky, Talksport, BBC and County Cricket Natters added to my listening list
Haven't seen the bbc one yet. Marty normally does the preview for Durham but i checked his twitter page and there is no mention of Durham or the season starting tomorrow.
