County Cricket 2022

I would assume so. If he still had to serve the normal qualification period there wouldn't have been any purpose in applying for a UK passport.

Bedingham says it’ll be end of 2024 before he’s qualified

The last sentence underlines the confusion on the whole issue
"To my understanding, I qualify [for England] at the end of 2024, but immigration laws change all the time so you never know."
From a purely selfish Durham view, the longer he takes to qualify the longer Durham will have 1st call on him.

does it count when all of ours except the 1 overseas player is or will be england qualified?
It's still bringing players in from SA rather than developing them ourselves which was my biggest issue with Hampshire's approach. But if we have 4/5 players brought to the club and 6/7 from our academy I'm happy with that approach. I think Durham are at a tipping point now, I wouldn't want to see many signings coming in unless they are replacing other signings/overseas players. I'd like to see us maintain a strong core of local players.

I’ve based it solely on players place of birth. In the circumstances does Hampfrica still work as a term of derision towards our friends from the south coast?

Did Bedingham play as a domestic player or overseas during the winter for WP. If he played as a domestic player I believe that may effect his qualification time for England.

No idea. My feelings towards them are based on their snidey twatness rather than having saffers.

And I think it's pretty fair to say our development of players continues

Cache 22 isn't it. Signing hussey and benkenstein probably did as much for our development of youngsters as producing any local player would. (Bar a harmison or a stokes) Inspire a whole generation

Absolutely, I'm not against overseas players or from other counties, I just hope we maintain a balance that Hampshire definitely lost a few years ago

I agree, I made this point the other year and got criticised for it, but my love for Durham and I believe Durham's purpose in existence is to give lads in the area a chance to play first class cricket. I understand having a better first team and environment will help younger lads but I am a tad uncomfortable with the balance personally

Totally agree, and you need a couple like that, but not half the team

the caveat obviously is how we were shafted and then lost a lot of local lads

Immigration laws and qualifying to play for England are two different things.
