I think Burnmoor have gone along the lines a few others have in that they have let 5 or 6 lads from the First Team make the choice, all interested in very much their own agenda.

Look at most of the clubs in there and there will undoubtedly be key players from many of them that personally will not wish to play in NEPL2. However, their clubs have managed to remain ambitious, and rightly so the decision to apply has been made for the good of the club, not 5 or 6 ageing players who will only be around for a couple of years.

The same can be said of Swalwell (see the comments on the Bill Quay forum). They have 4 or 5 lads who work Saturday's which is apparently their reason for bullying the NTSL every year. Surely the bigger picture would be to use the copious thousands to bring a couple of lads in to replace them and play in the NEPL2 and if these other lads love the club so much they could play in the 2nds!

Anyway, any news on the inspections? All seems a bit quiet!

So who actually conducts the inspections ?

Peter Brown (NEPL Management Committee/Bill Quay Chairman) and Duncan Carr (Chester-le-Street Groundsman). Not sure if anyone else was there.

Apparently the NEPL are meeting on Monday. Clubs should know by March 16th.

Cheers for that

I've read this forum for a while now and thought that I'd post as you have some good cricket craic, especially the local scene.

In all of this i find it amazing that Durham City CC were allowed to have so much influence. Does anyone know if their influence will now wane or not and why they were allowed to hold such sway over the DSL? Did money and the old school tie simply talk or am I being unfair?

Also my son plays for one of the NEPL junior sides who play in the DSL at the minute and I'm assuming that this up and coming season will be his clubs last with the DSL. Do we know if an NEPL Div 2 is formed and loads of former DSL clubs are admitted what impact this will have on the junior setup, given that I doubt the likes of Blaydon and South North will want to swap junior leagues and have no reason too.

The junior leagues will remain as they are with the DSL sides remaining in the DSL junior division. If this is not viable the NEPL will start a junior division for the DSL associate members

Sadly for Durham City this could be the end for them. Very few volunteers if any down there now and the heart of the DSL ripped out with only really Bournmoor remaining!

I am quite pleased it kicked off a bit as it seems to have brought about a more structured solution but they may well be kicking themselves now. They really should ahave applied for NEPL 2 but I suppose they have made their bed now!

Intersting read lads (apart from Bellys crack which is easy to tell is that of a naive kid).

Haven't played for a couple of seasons now but still try and keep upto date with the results through the Sunday Sun and Bill Quay website.

Interesting that Murton didn't take up the application as they have the new clubhouse and seem to be spending a bit coin on players again this year.
Can't really comment on any of the others leagues as only played in the coast league but the one thing I've found is that clubs must have a forward thinking committee who are willing to get the community involved (ie, try get the place running as a bar rather than just a cricker club).
In the coast league it seems like a lot of clubs have lost sight of this and committee numbers have dropped at lots of clubs and they seem to be very 'cliquey'.

Hope the end result works out well for most clubs as the NE cricket scene was in need of a bit of a shake up.

Have heard a strong rumour the NEPL have only accepted 10 clubs

10 clubs to be admitted. I know who they are (better sources than LoB ;-)) but won't be posting them on here as the clubs wont find out for another day or two.

PM if you're desperate to know!!

Doesn't it depend on the NEPL officially approving the formation of Div 2? I understand that they will not do that for a couple of weeks. Probably a formality but it still needs to be voted on with a two thirds majority of existing NEPL members

Would imagine that will, as you say, be a formality mate.

Future NEPL funding is largely dependent on the structure being in place so can't see the current NEPL clubs cutting their nose off to spite their face.

My source is impeccable

I'd be interested to know who the 10 sides are and confirmation of how many teams will be left in the DSL next year. Not many I assume unless they recruit from the other leagues. Anyone know what the DSL plans are now?

crook withdrew thier application and there are only 5 DSL teams left.
