I've been asking one or two people about the junior setup for the NEPL in 2013 ad it was mooted that they could set up North and South leagues with teams like Chester le Street, Hetton Lyons, South Shields (amongst others) in the South and South North, Tynemouth and Newcastle (amongst others) in the North. This would make it less onerous for travelling.

Anyone think that this would be feasible? Any drawbacks to such a configuration?

Could be possible but think at first the NEPL will look to house the former DSL member clubs juniors. Would have thought Brandon and Willington will keep their juniors in their current leagues and Sacriston will probably have a choice where their juniors play.

As for Norton it would explain why their delaying with regard to NEPL2 its not much of a surprise. Expect the NEPL would invite a club already knocked back to join.

Which would presumably be either Phili or Horden - leaving the DSL with only five.

Presumably so. Six with Marsden, Seven with The Harbour. Realistically they'd need eight (the lowest number the NEPL 2 were prepared to run with) to continue. They may then have to wait a number of years to jostle for position in any new system.

From what I gather Norton will be accepted in to NYSD Div 2. Norton would take this as they don't have much money and need to rebuild.

The NEPL will then go back and invite Philli.

Seems the NEPL voted in favour of the creation of NEPL2 so its all systems go! Any more hurdles need to be cleared here?

Not that I know of - it's now just for the ten "lucky" teams to get their resignation letters in to their current leagues by 30 June.

Attention now turns to the rest of the leagues and what they decide to do. Particularly the DSL, who are by far the worst hit.

Thats true all that's left is for the Northumberland Cricket Board to give it the ok and for the clubs to formally accept their invitation to join the league. Be interested to see if the likes of South Hetton go through with it.

Would be a little bit ridiculous to get this far down the line then pull out.....

True but its possible, it was never going to be plain sailing. Gather not all current NEPL clubs were too happy with NEPL 2 last night and some voted against it. Could have died in the EGM yesterday.

Sorry were you referring to South Hetton ? So far the only thing the clubs have done is declare an interest. Even the application wasn't a binding contract of intent, clubs may have just been keeping their options open before making a informed decision based on the options available to them. Clubs will now be written to with a formal invitation to join NEPL 2 which they'll have to reply to.
Nothing stopping a club declining the request which they may do if they only applied in fear of the DSL folding which now looks unlikely given the NEPL only took 10 clubs rather than 12.

They'd be advised though that their place would just be offered to another club

Both Northumberland Board and The Durham Board still have to agree and ,I am informed ,that the former is still not entirely satisfied with the arrangements. The 3 clubs who voted against NEPL2 were not based south of the Tyne.

It is still more likely that NEPL2 will be formed but further approval is awaited.

Norton are reported to be going to NYSD Div 3 and one other ,poss S Hetton ,have reportedly withdrawn their application.

From what I gather the NEPL have done everything the NCB have asked to appease them possibly the reason for only electing 10 clubs rather than 12. Your right about Norton they've been accepted in the NYSD 3rd tier and replaced in the NEPL by Seaham Harbour. South Hetton have not withdrawn their application and seem intent to see it through.

Bad news for the DSL - the Harbour were one of their bankers to apply to them. I really do hope this whole re-shuffle sees the end of the DSL; would be fitting.

Thats because your a bitter person , the DSL will survive make no mistake.

I don't think I'm alone in my bitterness towards the DSL, and what they've done this past few years to cover their own back. In fact, I'd go as far as to say I'm in the majority.

Other than that I am not a bitter person. I'm actually a ray of sunshine................... you pie-chucking mag bellend.

It would certainly be ironic given the fact that all this was brought about by the DSL themselves refusing to adhere to the pyramid in the first place.

I think it would be extremely childish of the Northumberland Board to oppose this and for the life of me I don't see a single valid reason for such opposition. All of the clubs in Northumberland were given a chance to apply and undoubtedly would have been welcomed with open arms. Unfortunately for them I think they have become a bit segregated from the NEPL as Swalwell win their league every year and seem to have zero ambition in terms of developing as a club!

I am trying to see why they would oppose it. None of their teams in the NTSL seem bothered so its no change for them, however I suppose it may make the likes of Tynemouth, Newcastle etc a little more in danger of relegation. It's a strange situation up there. I know a couple of lads who work there who really have their own agendas and have little regard for the good of North East cricket.

Jealousy coming through now.

Mixure of a few factors a few clubs dont think the NEPL 2 is up to the required standard in terms of both quality of opposition on offer and quality of facilities.

Northumberland dont like the fact there's only 4 Northumberland clubs out of what would be 22 in the NEPL system bit of an imbalance suspect this is why the NEPL 2 has two spaces left open. Although Shotley and Swalwell both come under the DCBs due restriction anyway so any promotion from the NTSL wouldn't really change this.

Relegation - Any Northumberland club relegated would go into what would effectively be a Durham league, up until this point they'd have went back into the NTSL. Tynemouth etc would have still been relegated under the previous system but to a league of their choosing this is now not the case.

As for Swalwell most of their players have played NEPL or first class cricket for longer than they care to remember most arnt young lads anymore while some have young kids and some others work Saturday mornings this being the reason they choose to play afternoon cricket in the NTSL they've no wish to change that. When you've played first class cricket dont suppose not wanting to play NEPL 2 shows a lack of ambition.

So as things stand the leagues for 2013 will be

NEPL2 10 teams
DSL 8 teams
DCCL 10 Teams
DCL 8 teams

I can not see any league surviving with only 8 teams for any length of time.

If the DSL were to advertise for new clubs where would they come from? I would sugget the DCCL but now that Seaham Harbour have been accepted into the NEPL2 who would go? Boldon CA then who? The DSL clubs don't want to play in the DSL.

The DCCL could look to the NEDCL for new teams such as Wearmouth or Whitleas. The question would be if they are able to field three junior teams which is the current requirement for the league.

The DCL could also look to the NEDCL for clubs such as Coundon (who in the past have not wanted to move) or Newton Aycliffe. They could also look to teams in the Darlington and District League but I don't know any thing about the clubs in that league.

In short there are not 10 teams to fill the gaps in the three leagues. I think they might stuble along for two years each hoping that one of the other two fold and then pick up the clubs left with out a league (I hope they don't but the management of the leagues will have to change before they engage with each other)

By 2015 I would expect that the NEPL 2 will expand to its full size of 12 clubs at which point the change in the three remaining leagues will have to take place. This could be a County Durham Senior League with two sections Coast in the East and County in the West, with a play off between the two sections to find the DCSL champions!
