Coffee shops in Sunderland

Otto's.
Mrs B (& dog) called in, picked up brie & bacon & weeds* panini's and brought them round corner where I was damaging walls**, very nice, will have to call in person.

* May have misheard this one
** Supposed to be hanging pictures.

Whenever I have walked by rarely anyone in during the day and certainly not drinking coffee. Pubwise it attracts a few. Also I like my comfy seats when I have a coffee ( pathetic as that may sound ) and it seems to lack those
My absolute pet hate when coffee shops don't have comfy seats.

I'm sure I read something once about Starbucks removing their "comfy seating" to get a bigger turnover of customers and therefore boost profits. Although a quick google suggests their now swinging back the other way to encourage customers back.

It'll be irrational, but I just assume if a coffee shop doesn't have comfy seating, they want me in and out. Which if that was the case I'd either make a coffee at home or get one to go.

It’s a difficult one. Some people take the pi$$ and will ‘sit’ on one coffee and lots of free water for hours and use free wi fi. I can understand shop owners getting narked by that.
I, personally, tend to spend an hour in these places ( max). I’ll have 2 coffees then away. Sadly the demise of printed media especially newspapers has taken away a bit of the pleasure I derived ( being a boomer I suppose ). The joys of reading paper back to front , news, sport, in depth analysis etc. Now it is bite sized chunks for those unable to concentrate for more than 10 seconds.
But a comfy chair is non negotiable these days for me

Plenty to choose from there

  1. Fancy a brew? Sunderland has a thriving independent coffee shop scene. If you’re in Sunderland city centre, here’s some great places to visit, big chains aside, in no particular order.

Great article, didn’t know about some of these so will give them a go.

Coles is the best coffee in Sunderland for me. Pop Recs and Waterstones are decent as well.
I like the ‘ ambience’ of waterstones but their coffee isnt the best
Love the comfy chairs and watching the ‘wild life’ from the windows in Nero’s but again the coffee is expensive and naff
