Club are looking to extend the stadium

Wembley, Emirates, Spurs ground, West Hams ground (Especially with the London travel links and hotels) Old Trafford, That's just a few from England, not taking into account Millennium stadium, Hampden park (Again In Edinburgh so loads of travel links and hotels) Everton's new ground will probably be in with a shout as well as Anfield with it's European history

That was Methen trying to sort the sound system out on the cheap rather than bring in an outside contractor
Hampden park is in glasgow

Extend the stadium all the way around but not capacity
This would still allow us to maximise space for better matchday experience, hospitality and corporate offerings
I personally think this is close to the answer. Extend all round and take full advantage of the new space to increase the corporate or higher end ticket prices. Think Club Wembley type of space. Not just loads of boxes, but a nicer version of BCB with bars and eateries all down East stand. Then add seats above which, even if we don’t fill on March days will come in useful when we have summer concerts , etc.

I do think though we can’t forget those who don’t have the money to splash so maybe the South Stand just make a giant wall of noise.

Given the fact it only cost 7m to do you can’t say it was a complete waste of time and money. Unfortunately it’s only wasted by the powers that be that can’t make us be a consistently successful side.
This, since the ground was extended the highest we've finished is 10th.
We've been relegated 4 times (twice with record low points), (back to back relegations)
We often wouldn't win a game until October.
We once went a full year without a home win.
We've struggled in league one for 4 years.
Lost any decent players we've had and largely replaced them with lower league shite.
We're currently sitting in the dizzy heights of 11-12th in the championship.

Despite all of the above we are still averaging 38k and can draw crouds in excess of 40k.

Our grounds not to big for us, give us a successful SAFC and it would be to small.

Hypothetically (because I don't believe for one second we are considering expansion)....

I read on another forum, that one of the criticism of HS2 being stopped, is that the cheapest time to build anything tends to be now, as wages/materials/consultancy fees/insurance etc go up in price far more often than they come down.

So if they think in the next 5/10 years we'll need it. They might as well do it sooner rather than later. Especially as expanding it when we aren't filling the ground wouldn't penalise us if you need to restrict capacity for building work during the season

Question is wether we need it?

As SAFC (the football team) the answer is almost certainly no.
As SAFC (the business) are they looking at increasing the number of concerts, World Cup/Euro bids, or even other sports? I can't see a case myself, but If there are non-football revenue streams, it makes sense to explore them.

I just can't see that there's a big return

Why have a stadium that holds more than 49,000 when we rarely fill it? That's like saying why have a car that does over 70mph when 70mph is the speed limit.
There's nowt wrong with having a bit more in reserve for when it's needed.

I took a walk around recently while my car was being repaired.. I walked up Westgate Road and around the hospital.. what an absolute shithole.. rancid. Back lanes full of turned over bins, shit everywhere literally, smashed up cemetery, shops boarded up or selling tat, tramps, spice rats, ket heads and radgies everywhere!. it’s desperate and I’d avoid it like the plague at night.
Ive heard of meow meow and thought im down with the kids but spice rats is a new one on me .

Correct - no way was the extension a waste of money, at that time we had momentum and the draw to get the supporters in. On the turn of the millenium we had our tickets in the North stand upper and the ground was full up every game, this was 2 seasons with a 7th place finish and all the club had to do was capitilise on this but we sat on our hands and done nothing, regressed and here we are. When Newcastle extended, they were the most ambitious club in the world at the time and nearly got the title. They were in Europe nearly every season for circa 10 years and their support stuck with them and grew hence where they are now - we cannot knock them for that no matter how fking deluded they are.

In conclusion Sunderland had the ambition with Bob Murray and extended but didnt have the capital and backing to take it to the next level for us to stay top 10 of the premier league. If the right backers came in at that time when we were on the up no doubt in my mind if we had similar success to Newcastle the ground would have been easily packed in with a South end extension to at circa 55,000, no doubt. Bigger wealth and backing would have come in and who knows 630000 wouldnt have sounded too silly.

Without doubt we are on the rise again and our attendeces cannot be sniffed at, is 55000 to much for a club averaging 38000, of course it is but without vision there is no growth. Can KLD see us in the top 8 of the Premier league within 5-8 years? I hope so, so in the time from now till then what does the club do? sit on its hands and do nothing to meet its vision? I would say if its possible and viable build the extension as in 5 years time we could actually be filling it and not wait till we get to that point until we can.

I have highlighted some text in your comment which seems a bit wrong, so they stuck with them for 10 years in Europe, but fucked off when they were not? and good old Mike had to give away 10,000 season tickets. The loyal nashun have come rushing back again to welcome the blood money

my post is true mate - forget about who owns their club now and 10000 feww season tickets, my comparisons were based on amition to get the fans in. Their ambition has always been higher than ours the last 30 years

You stated their fans stuck with them for 10 years in Europe, or did I read that wrong?
