Just to put Mr Millwall straight we sold out Tuesday and Wembley came up with more tickets. The rest of it , well if want to believe all that pony it's upto you. You only have to look at the history books , they have always been in our shadow attendance wise
Actually, there is a comparison between Millwall and Charlton attendances from 1920 that actually show when at the same level, Millwall have averaged more on more occasions than Charlton! I will try and find it. Although you can verify that using

Most people do not realise how well Millwall were supported between the wars and just after - when the Millwall Docks and Surrey Docks were at their peak. For example 38,501 v Swindon in Division Three (South) 1937-38, for a non promotion/relegation game. Or 31,990 v Port Vale for our first Third Division Three (South) match after a miserable relegation from Division Two in 1948/49 and the even more impressive 45,642 for the visit of 4th placed Notts County to The Den in October 1948/49 with the Lions in 6th (only one promotion place back then) in Division Three (South). Sadly, the club has just never experienced
any sustained success, ever. As the docks started to decline, so did the support, as many had to move away to find new work. However, there is a bigger floating support for Millwall than you may think. When Millwall were forced to introduce a members only policy for games 24,000 people did sign up. To become a member you needed to hand over personal details, supported by bank or utility bills, a passport picture and a fiver. So, not for the casual fan.
I would also wager that there is no way Charlton could sell the 49,661 tickets Millwall managed to sell (plus the c2,000 Club Wembley seats) if they were also playing Scunthorpe United Sunday like we did in 2009, instead of the more attractive Sunderland. I think those Charlton fans that really know their club would agree, reluctantly, but agree nevertheless.
Anyways, this isn't really a debate for a Sunderland forum. I was more interested in saying the people of Sunderland support their team brilliantly and should never be anything but proud of that fact!
I hope both sets of fans have a great day. Win win for us Millwall fans... we get the most one-sided derby series in English football back (in our favour) and I think a candidate for one of the relegation places (given the Charlton owner) if Charlton win. But, if Sunderland win it will be quite amusing to see so many Addicks disappointed in one place and it not involving missing the passing of the Flying Scotsman and Sunderland always bring a great & vocal following to The Den and make it a top match.
I will leave you both to it now. As probably out-staying welcome!
