CC :: Worcestershire v Durham

It’s not about being risk averse it’s about giving you the best chance of winning the game by allowing your bowlers to be fresh and the pitch to be at its worst. Decisions like this aren’t made without teams being fully aware of all of the data beforehand.
Yeah of course depending on circumstances fitness with bowlers etc etc you make the judgement call, just think too much pressure on captains nowadays to take any risks to win games

It’s the same when teams are chasing say 250/275 to win games they thought process imo, tends to be make sure you don’t lose rather than taking risks to win games.

In general captains tend to make sure when setting declarations nowadays that they bat teams out of games rather than setting targets that could possibly get teams to take some risks to chase a score which it turn would enhance your owns teams chance to take wickets to win the game.
Obviously that not the case in this game just a general observation of modern day cricket in the longer format.

If it had been over in 3 days people would say it’s not a good advert

It’s not about being a good advert
Just my opinion mate but in that match 3 of the 4 openers in the first innings scored 332 runs of 756 balls.

Personally I think that too negative way to play cricket and that sort of rate will result in more draws than wins and imo is not good for cricket.

Struggling to find the balance I think. Typical English pitches which suit a Rushy for example doesn't get you bowlers that can get players out on flat pitches or quality spinners because they dont get the chance to bowl. I do take your point though.
Yeah I saw the other week they need to find a fine balance. At the moment it's far too extreme. Whilst it's good for the paying public to see an England captain go bezerk and the pitch has done its job for England and Stokes, I'd always like to think this sort of freak innings was a one off but then the day after we hit 170ish off 20 odd overs.... Does that make for a good competition/good viewing for spectators? It's a no from me. Honestly believe spectators are been short changed at the moment, it doesn't make for a good competition or viewing.

Don't remember too many people complaining when stokes was blasting off like.

If the aim is to get players ready for international cricket then you could argue these results suggest it's working, it's down to county bowlers to develop answers
That's it, I don't think the ECB will look at the results and think "oops, to many bore draws" I think they'l respond exactly as you said, "county bowlers have to find ways to be effective in these conditions".
Looking at the current scores - if they go at an average to good T20 type rate they'll win.

It doesn’t it can’t be good viewing dead wickets and no chance of a result happened too often this season for me and more importantly it will
not attract any new interest to the red ball game which is always important.

There’s still a chance Lancashire can force a win. 🤷‍♂️
Yeah there as been a bit of a collapse so could still happen but for 90% of the game it has looked a draw despite only 361 and 315 scored in the first innings looks more than likely only 3 innings will happen.

It’s too negative for me just not enough looking for wins for my personal liking in general in modern day cricket it’s more make sure we don’t lose.

Like I said in earlier post the 3 openers who scored runs in the first innings took 756 balls to score 332 runs think that to much of a negative way to go about things and will result in more draws than wins that kind of rate.

Real problems with the bowling.

Two games now where we’ve taken a combined 3 wickets in the entirety of the last day of play.

It’s not just that we didn’t take any wickets, we didn’t really look remotely like taking any wickets.
