Aye. It's like why is he playing this year when last year was so pitiful.
Aye, just the 1087 runs last season
Any idea what Colly is/was on as a 42 year old? He is a legend at Durham. He was bloody good for England too. But he has no doubt been on a decent wedge without performing on the pitch. Durham would have been better off giving younger players than him an opportunity.
Being a great doesn't justify taking money from the club when you're past it. Ridiculous to say he gets off scot free.
One bad season ffs, I’m prepared to give him a free pass based on the fact he averaged just under 50 last season at 41 year old and has been the single greatest ambassador for Durham County Cricket Club.
So did he take a pay cut because he's 42 not 32?
No-one disputes how good he's been. But he has to take some responsibility. Cloughie took responsibility for Forest being relegated in his last season. England sacked their World Cup winning manager. There is no such thing as a free ride.
Today was shameful. A once in a century performance.
This morning 67 all out was their lowest score, its now their third lowest.
You’re making a lot of very wild assumptions here mind. For all we know, the club may have given him some kind of ultimatum which has prompted his retirement. It may well be that the club and Colly have decided to dress it up as a retirement, when in reality he’s been told he won’t be offered a deal for 2019.
Not at all. Just find it poor he seems to be getting singled out. I've already said I would drop every batsman for next week.
He’s not being singled out, most of the batsmen have come in for criticism today - the fact is though, Richardson has had far more chances and far more failures than the others around him.
It wouldn’t be right to keep him, but drop/offload Clark, Poynter, Harte, etc.
I've no idea, he may well have. I do know he stayed because the club desperately wanted him to and because they felt his experience was needed to help them through incredibly difficult times.Last season at 41 he was fantastic scoring over 1000 runs at an average of 50. Now a year later after a poor season he's a leech for taking money out of the club at 42. Utter bollocks.
Fantastic post.
It's obvious to see why Colly played on. He's still skint after this.

No wonder he invested in a tax avoidance scheme a few years back.
Sky might help him out.
Seriously mate, has Colly shagged your missus or summit? Lot of vitriol directed his way by you tonight mind.
That's fake news. What about the 48 points the ECB took off them last season. So in performances, they've gone backwards.
The one day Cup efforts were pathetic.
WHED said the table doesn’t lie. Indeed it doesn’t. We’re higher than we were last season at the same point.
I think you are missing the point the criticism is of his part in the leadership of the club not the amount of runs he has scored. Performances like today can't be down to just Lewis, it's not as if Colly is a callow 23 year old captain bring puppy walked by the coach through his first season. As you keep telling us he is 42 and a north east sporting legend.
So you want to question Paul Collingwood’s leadership do you??
Right, well aside from all the trophies and honours he’s won, for Durham. What about when we were staring relegation down the barrel in (iirc) 2011? He came back to take over the captaincy and fortunes immediately improved. We staged a Great Escape that the lads would’ve been proud of.
Then, how about this past few years, when the likes of Stoneman, Bothwick, Hart, Coughlin, Jennings et al have jumped off the sinking ship? It would’ve been so easy to walk away, head high after an illustrious career. Instead, he hung around determined to keep the club afloat.
f***ing hell man, some people on here have some short memories.
But aye, what have the Romans ACTUALLY ever done for us

.
f***ing morons.
Is all of what he’s done not the absolute definition of fine leadership?
