CC : Leicestershire v Durham

Is our captain who apparently is a future England coach getting away Scott free here. Surely this season is also a sad reflection on his leadership skills as well. He can't take all the praise when the side are winning and no criticism when they are getting beat. Lewis never impressed me as a captain or a coach but he is not the sole reason for this season.
Agree. Mr undroppable

Having been a member since our first season I like many witnessed some pretty dark days during our early struggles but nothing compares to today's absolutely pathetic showing. Our batsmen have embarrassed the Club twice in one day and clearly answers from them and the coach must be forthcoming as to why this has occurred against a mediocre second division side. Players like Clark, Richardson and Poynter are far too comfortable in our side and none seem to be improving. All have talent as they have shown in the past but these collapses have been too frequent this season and it's time for these and the other batsmen to stand up and be counted. Otherwise further recruitment will be required. Not good enough today....and unacceptable!

Yes the club has some nice canny lads who are amiable and approachable but the batting needs to be very seriously addressed because all season it has been with one or two exceptions very poor
The club needs urgently to address the future from a deep batting perspective and I don’t know what length are left on players contracts but the likes of Richardson,Clark Smith and Harte have to go and whether Raine will ever come near to filling Colly boots is debatable
Yes the weather is a factor but you cannot blame it all on this feckless fiasco

Colly turned into another Harmison. Paid handsomely for nothing after previous good service.

Also, can someone please explain what Ian Botham's role is? Can anyone explain anything that he's achieved as chairman? Genuine question.

Great player in his pomp but I have always thought he is a knacker.

His autobiography said that signing for Durham was "the biggest mistake" of his career.

I also remember the day he announced his retirement v Australia at the University Ground. He locked himself in the pavilion and refused to come and say goodbye to supporters. Geoff Cook had come and make up some cock and bull story to excuse him.

I have taken advantage of the glorious weather this season and have made a point of getting to the ground for the gates opening at 10 am.

What is noticeable without fail on each and everyone of those 19 CC days is how much more intense the opposition's warm up sessions are compared to ours where at times it resembles some sort of comfy holiday camp.

I too have been a member since 1992 and have been watching them as a minor county since 77 in the days of Wasim,Greensword,Lander etc and sadly I have to say that today's performance is totally unacceptable and the nadir of those 41 years.

Lewis has been here as player and coach since 1997 and I really think it's time he was given his cards and his coppers as Jesus of the Boro used to say.

We'll. I'll give it a shot.

He Chairs the Board, the board sets policy to be implemented by the Chief Exec.

He's brought in a new Chief Exec and new Finance Director.

Going on what I can gather from reports from the members night I think somebody has done some smart work on the debt and the club are in a much better position.

He shouldn't interfere in on the field issues - but the whole board can and should have an opinion on the recent performances.

Now if someone can explain to me what the Director of Cricket is supposed to do and perhaps why all cricket issues aren't part of his remit (maybe they will be with the new incumbent) I'd be grateful.

Since the start of this season obviously someone has been saying the playing squad isn't strong enough ad someone has found the money and time to scout and recruit. Obviously Lewis would or should play a big part and the Finance guy.

Maybe Lewis didn't play a big part and 'somebody' had to tell him it wasn't good enough? (big speculation with no facts to back it up)

They could start by playing one wicket keeper and bat him at 7 and bring in a batsmen in place if the other. This cunning plan for the past two years has been a nightmare.
Staggering Richardson has been getting a game as a batsman alone for years now. He looked top class in his first season or two but the lad has been treading water for too long. Robbing a living.

Poynter seems capable of a big shot or two in the shorter format but nowhere near good enough with the bat in the longer form.

They could both do with being chased.

I always thought Richardson was a competent county wicket keeper batsmen but asking a bit much to expect him to be a specialist batsmen. Iam not surprised he has slipped back down the order. It's not as if our keepers have to be anything special they spend most of their time standing 20 yards back to a diet if right arm medium.

It's embarrassing folk seemingly single out Richardson mind. He missed a lot of red ball cricket this season. Topped the averages in the one day cup. I'd rather him than Poynter to be honest. I know nothing about the other lad Davies who we signed.

You have summed it up pretty much perfectly marra the key phrase being "absolutely pathetic", to borrow a horse racing phrase we employ too many "selling platers".

Absolutely he is. We have some right spiteful twats with short memories on here mind . Collingwood is an absolute all time Durham great. He is at the very top of the highest tree. In 80 years time Collingwood will be remembered the way Buchan and Raich Carter are for SAFC although I dare say if we had the internet back then there would have been some knackers slagging them off when they retired.

He deserves a lot more than a free pass for the poor performances of a 42 year old, who in fairness would be nowhere near the team if we hadn't been for the scandalous ECB. Shame on you and shame on many others.

Disagree. He's justifiably deserves criticism this season just like the rest of them.

Aye. It's like why is he playing this year when last year was so pitiful.

Looking to next year.
We have what looks like a strong top order with Steel, Bancroft and Lees … but then the next three spots are an issue. The bowling division looks fine.
