CC :: Durham v Warwickshire

Not saying we haven't but results are more important than performance
Depends how serious you’re taking this placeholder trophy. I think the performance increases after the last few years of, let’s be honest, shit, it’s very encouraging to see us competing with teams like Essex in particular who’ve been at the top of div 1. Puts us in a very good position to certainly push for promotion next season (if we even go back to the old format) or compete in future after a few years of transition. Obviously it’s important to win, but the performances are most encouraging and we can only have confidence of winning this group from here on in

Apart from 2nd innings vs Essex our batting unit has been really good.

Huge improvement on last couple of years.

With our seam bowling strength to complement good scores we're on the up!

tricky one re the above discussion. I tend to always say "it's a results business" which it is but given the shit we've been through it's lovely to see us playing some good cricket but we have only won 1 game some might say.

at the moment I am satisfied on both levels. we are a club in transition, long gone are the days of di venuto/stoneman/benks where for me it was always about the result as we were so bloody good, I expected us to bat 400 a day at home but for now I think we need to keep a fine balance with an understanding what we have been through. Yes we are playing well but we need to try and push to avoid division 3 and for me that will be a sign of progress. I've watched some absolute shite in recent years and we've hardly won. Small steps, it will get better, for now lets just enjoy

The problem with supporting a county cricket side and saying it's all about winning is that when you do start winning then more than likely if you have done it the right way by developing your own players then they move on to play at the next level which is England.
It depends what you want if you just want to see your team win then in cricket terms spend as little as you can get away with on your youth system and spend your money on signing players probably from overseas with British passports.
For me a massive part of watching and supporting Durham is watching local lads get their chance. Probably why for me I enjoyed Durham winning those first two county championships but nothing like the pride I felt in 2013 when they won it with basically a team full of local lads who had come through the Academy system.

Spot on. Also, the equation isn't play to win or play to play well. If you're winning you have to play well somewhere along the line. If you're losing, with a not very good team ..... you have to start to 'play well' and often starting to 'play well' precedes starting to win - and I think that's the point we're at now.
