CC :: Durham v Leicestershire

Haven't watched any of the cricket today but it will be interesting where the wicket is situated for the Notts championship match on Thursday.
If red telephones theory is right that the wickets at the pavilion end of the square are flatter than at the river then hopefully the next one is at the other end.
Mind it does show how limited what in theory is a very decent county attack are when the ball is not seaming and swinging prodigusly.

Maybe it wasn't the skippers decision which is what a few have suggested today.....
I heard the Leicestershire commentator mention this earlier although he emphasised it was rumours he heard around the ground.

Rumours suggested it was a management decision but I can't fathom why they'd do this.

I think the skipper should perhaps have given them a more tempting target to encourage them to go for it and take a few more risks. He played safe by not declaring sooner and this is the result.

We'll never know. A more chasable total might have let to more risks meaning more chances, or we could have lost and then everyone would be slaughtering the team for losing from such a winning position. Can't really blame them for going safety first, hiding to nothing really.

Well that's my lot. One of the worst county championship games and wickets I've sat through down here. Appalling advert for County Cricket. As a long time member said to me an hour ago "worst wicket I've seen here in 27 years". See what next week brings.

Perhaps at this early stage of the season they just don’t want to take a risk to give Leicestershire any chance of winning a game they’ve been far and away second best since Lunch on Day 1.

One things for sure, this pitch will do wonders for developing our spinners :D:D
Think they'll give Evans a chance to get his century before shaking hands?

Yeah the rumour was certain players wanted to declare but Franklin didn't want to. One player rumoured not to be happy "throwing away his wicket" for the sake of a declaration when a century was most definitely possible.

Can you expand?

I’m lost here

surely those two things contradict each other
No they don't. Some players wanted to declare earlier including the captain. Franklin rumoured to have had the final say. One player who was pushing for 100 started playing shots in hope we would declare early, lost his wicket. No contradiction at all

Any evidence of Franklin wanting to bat on and borthwick not

not much point saying 'one player' when the only person that applies to is dickson. if we weren't going to delcare then he had all the time in the world to bat for his hundred. if there was some kind of miscommunication i can understand a bit why he might be frustrated but at the end of the say if he'd played big shots successfully and we'd ended up with a lead of 400 with 10 overs left i feel certain we'd have declared.

as for borthwick pissing around for 2 overs, what does it matter? nowt would be gained declaring when he came in other than we could have left a bit earlier ;)

Maybe Borthwick was pissed off? Again rumours....

I always think that in general, of course easier to say on the sidelines, but sometimes to win games your need to at least tempt the opposition a little bit to help take those wickets.

Don’t know what it is, it maybe the out and out pressure that is on captains, but modern day cricket captains seem so risk averse nowadays and not sure that’s good tbh.
