CC :: Durham v Derbyshire

GET IN

Aitchison b Raine 2.

Shoulders arms to a delivery that jags back from a fifth stump line off the pitch to clip the top of off.

Comms criticising the leave, but in fairness to the batsman, that ball deviated quite a bit and had it not done, would’ve missed the stumps by atleast a foot.

Derbyshire 137-5. 4 overs to go tonight. Still trail by 338.

Agree. That seamed a lot. Need to drop more deliveries on that spot.

I recently spent four days in Durham cardio ward for trying to "play on" when I shouldn't so aye seriously..

Not if he can't bat in the second.

3 whole runs...

On reflection you’re right. He was fit today and could have returned and got his ton.

Even if it was the wrong call it was a selfless one though so fair play.

A great 2 days for Durham. But I simply cant understand why Poynter is in the side. IMO Eckersley is a better keeper and batsman. It's not like Eckersley is being used as a specialist batsman to open or bat first down. Eckersley is maybe batting slightly up the middle order which is a reasonable role for a keeper. Drop Poynter and put Trevaskis in and there's at least a left arm spinning/batting option rather than carrying 2 keepers.

Don't get me started. If I was Trevaskis I'd want away: bowled neatly, taken wickets and scored fifties for the seconds and Alex Thomson (who hasn't) gets in the squad ahead of him. Borthwick seems to have forgotten how to bowl and this season's dry wickets are begging for a spinner and we just bash away with 4xrfm and Borthwick, losing and drawing games because we are bereft of attacking variety in the third innings.

As for Poynter, that 50 at Essex must be the only half decent knock in ten games. The supposed improvement in Eckersley's game is trivial compared to the bowling problem.

Coughlin/Potts is a similar one. Matty is the form player in the seconds and Coggs walks into the team. There are one or two odd selections which smell of favouritism and pecking order.

Potts playing for Shotley Bridge today along with Paul Collingwood

Well there is a Matthew Potts on their team sheet today at the bottom of the sheet so I'm assuming it's him.
I am not aware of any other Matthew Potts, who plays for Shotley Bridge.
Where the county players play as pro bares almost no relevance. Obviously Wood at Ashington does but largely they seem a bit scatter gun.

Be useful if there was a list so we can stalk them when they are local and aren't playing for Durham.

Blaydon CC fielded a Graham Clark against Shotley the other weekend, took 3 wickets and scored 80 not out.

Oliver Gibson from the 2nds is also on the SB team sheet today.Pretty sure he's played for the junior teams and is part of a long time family connection with the club.

Hillary has a brilliant youth set up there. The bairn played down there before Covid, just as a beginner but they involved everyone.

A lad who was in my other daughters class at primary is in the second xi today. He's only 15, great to see.
