Boro thread

You were in play off contention when Beale took over yes, but you then sank like a stone, so the momentum was gone.

We've missed out on the play offs the last TWO seasons, and were in contention in both seasons right to the end

So, you lost two of your best players - we haven't lost anyone yet, and we do have a squad of decent players.
Strengthened in a couple of areas and the confidence would soon grow.

Don't think we've appointed anyone yet (as manager/head coach), so it's a bit premature to say whoever we appoint won't be 'capable'.

Anyhow - no point in going round in circles, you have your opinions, i have mine.
It'll all come out in the wash - hardly life changing however things turn out (for either club).

You've lost latte Lath who you haven't replaced.

Hackney is your best player and Edwards style will bypass his strengths. You dont have a strong defense or midfield.

We were a playoff side with an awful manager. You are average. You've missed the boat 2 seasons in a row

You've got Micah back from his loan too.

I think the league will be stronger this season. I can't see any of the relegated sides doing a Luton. Those 3 and Sheffield will be strong. Coventry improved greatly after Lampard arrived. Brum and Wrexham could hit the ground running too.

I just can't see you doing much. You were poor last season. You nearly made the play offs because other teams choked.
We'll just have to wait and see.
Those 3 and Sheffield might not be strong.
Coventry could have peaked
Brum and Wrexham may NOT hit the ground running.
It's all ifs buts and maybes.

Yes other teams choked, but had we won just one more game (the last one) the we would have made the play offs.
Didn't you lose 4 of your last 5 matches (approx)?
You could argue that if those same clubs hadn't choked then maybe a couple of them might have caught you.

We've a transfer window coming up so we've every chance of replacing Latte Lath.
Hackney is decent yes, but he's not our only decent player and I would assume you don't know Edwards personally, so surely won't know how he would utilise his players (if indeed we end up with Edwards).
Easy to talk about Edwards and his style (and whether he's capable), but hasn't your current head coach got a relegation on his CV?.

I've seen how he utilised them in the championship and the premier league.

What's that got to do with anything? Le bris was relegated from ligue 1 with a small club

Edwards should never have been relegated last season.

When gyokeres leaves sporting Coventry will be due another chunk of money too, be a ridiculous league this season

Edwards is on record many times saying he didn't want to play the long ball stuff at Luton, but he had no choice as the players he had couldn't play an alternative way and he wanted promotion. I think that's pretty pragmatic to be fair. Especially after Carrick was absolutely rigid in his approach and would not alter it despite the obvious flaws seen in the last season.

If he does come to Boro, I really don't see us becoming a long ball team but I guess only time will tell.
Jobe wasn’t our best player
You could argue he was one of them.

He played direct at Watford with Sarr and Jao Pedro. I dont think he's going to radically change the way he's coached suddenly

Had quick flick through that link to their forum and had to laugh at the comment about how we wish we had the big names they had like Juninho and Ravenelli

Last we forget that team that had Juninho and Ravenelli got relegated finishing below a Sunderland team that also took 4 points off Middlesbrough side that year

Not for me - I've genuinely never heard of him.

Edit I thought it was another Edwards - a player you were refering to.

Rob is a poor one trick pony who anti-footballed his way forward then the same team showed their true limitations.

I went into our Middlesbrough office today.
Got a few nibbles asking who they got opening day. They are not happy with this new manager , so I said it’s ok , big Mick Beale will get things sorted.

One tried to bring their Milk cup win in as a comparison to our day out. I said did you go Trafalgar and that after , he said no ours was at Cardiff. Oh right , not really the same is it then. Like a cup win from Temu in a way.

There is a theory called the grief cycle I think. DADA is the acronym
Everyone goes through
Disbelief ( Watson goal)
Anger ( full time realisation )
Depression ( current state)
Then finally
Acceptance.

I would say majority are in D for Depression ,
DABDA. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance. Smoggies are still in the Denial phase.

Thank you. I knew there was a series of emotions they need to go through.

I agree with your assessment of their current state.
Not sure there is anything we can do to help them.

He wasn’t really though, was he? Not only did he leave at the beginning of January, but when he did they were dropping like a stone, but they were still outside the bottom three. It was his successor that finished the job.

I don’t particularly rate him, but I don’t see why they think they could get better.
