Wonder why Rodgers didn't say "yes we accepted an offer for Fabio but he's turned the move down he wants to fight for his place here" when they played Preston the other day

this is simply him and his agent trying to leverage the best deal possible out of safc
probably some of the following

1) were making a joint equaling record bid for him
2) he/his goals was hugely important last year
3) fit into gus' system and know the club and current squad
4) could be argued that he's turning back on potentially winning things with pool and champs lge footy
5)could be argued that we are constantly flirting with going down, hence this act of brokerage could be to ensure there are sufficient clauses in his contract to get out quickly / cheaply if needs be
6) many of our fans have really taken to him, goals v mags, wembley, very efficient penalty taker
7) maybe playing brinkmanship to be signed as a out and out forward
8) knows that he most likelihood of being the top target

so wipe you arses and stop your pant shitting

But why does he HAVE to be there? The lad has always said he wants to play football, so why take himself out of playing and getting fit to discuss a deal when his agent can sort it all?

Paul Scholes never went to negotiations, he'd always send the PFA in and tell them to just accept any offer. Borini of course isn't Scholes and probably wants some assurances and to get the best deal for himself, but why should he stay in the country to do that? There is such thing as the internet and mobile communication that deals do get done by. I have a feeling the ONLY reason he's gone is because Liverpool play Roma first and Borini wants to play against them as his send off, he seems to be a bit of a sentimental type! In fact he still hasn't changed his twitter picture or description saying he's a SAFC player. If he wanted to get rid of the SAFC connection that would be long gone.
I'm not saying he won't sign. I don't have a clue what's going on.

What I do know is it's not being conducted the usual way. It's not normal for him to be playing in friendlies for Liverpool, intimating how happy he is to go on tour with them etc.
Iv no idea why people seem so keen to make out that it is.

It happens in all kinds of different ways though. Players get linked for weeks before everything goes through - Lallana as an example. He had been in talks with Liverpool weeks before the bid was accepted because Southampton gave him permission so as soon as the final bid was accepted all he had to do was sign.
Being linked is totally different to having an official bid accepted and acknowledged by both sides.
Why would lallana only need to sign but borini is going to take days/weeks?

Borini will have left instructions with his agent before leaving, got to remember if we suddenly pull out of the deal the lad has to be able to stay at Liverpool without becoming public enemy number 1.

He's being VERY professional about this and it's one of his endearing traits.

Aye, good thinking. Just hope we get him!

Only thing is, last season he had nothing to lose. Came here and became a cult hero. If we shell out the money to sign him, there is the will he wont he, should he come and miss a penalty, straight away the fans will be on his back.
I think, we move on.

Fletch fit and Connor from start of season will be like two new signings. A good winger and a good midfielder with the money and I think the midfield and forward line will be canny. Just the defence to sort which I am sure is in hand....I HOPE!!!!!!
That is the most ridiculous rationale I have ever seen on here

It might not be normal but when are things normal where SAFC are concerned?

I reckon he'll sign in the end, there's nothing to worry about yet. I reckon the club are being extra professional and doing things by the book thanks to the fines we had when under RDF!

Can't fault the club. Wouldn't surprise me if this is a bit of an ultimatum to borini. Sign now or we move on to other targets and if I was pushed i reckon we will get him but that's probably wishful thinking.

There goes that optimism.

Really odd stuff from SAFC - Only thing I can think of is Borini told the club he'd like to come back but has had a change of heart / didn't really mean it at the time

If established to be true, we should leave it there, and find a suitable replacement.

Because Southampton had given him permission to talk to Liverpool while they were still negotiating the fee. Hence when reports were that Liverpool were making an approach/negotiating with Southampton, they were also getting everything in place with Lallana and his agent at the same time. So the discussions with Lallana were 4 weeks down the line and sorted by the time Liverpool had a bid accepted.

Don't know if this is Seb but my take is that Liverpool's players who took part in the World Cup may still be on holiday, Talksport confirmed this morning that Gerard is def on holiday. Maybe Liverpool need Borini to make up the numbers for the tour ?

Or they didn't ask the question.

It was the same wih Robbie Keane. half of our squad had spent the summer with him at the world cup, including Quinny who was his striker partner & had just been named our first team coach.

We'd been rumoured to have been after him for a long time so when we had the bid accepted I thought it'd have been a foregone conclusion as there was no way we'd have wasted our time chasing him if he wasn't interested. He wasn't.

We need to get a definite answer out of Borinis camp ASAP, if he's not interest, so for other targets. Welbeck would be top of my list.
