You've completely missed the point.

Who else was vying to pay Liverpool that sort of money? As plenty have stated, he's been valuable, but not to the extent that you'd snap Pool's hand off for him.

For me, the bigger issue is wages. That's where clubs lose an awful lot of money, especially when players are now quiet content to see out a contract because the money is so huge. Players would rather just turn up and train for that extra 20k or so a week.
