Bid rejected for Clarke

It isn't alone, but we're comparing a lad who plays centre mid to a winger. Scott will often be the man before the assist when hes looking to play forward, where Clarke is often our end product.

The stats do speak for themselves though, Clarke's output lasr season was very, very good.
Clarke was very good, I agree. But stats don’t speak for themselves at all, can be very misleading and only tell a small part of the picture. Some people would have Wyke being better than Stewart given their goal returns in consecutive seasons, the truth is somewhat different though.

103 pgs of Jack Clarke thread and I'm trying to work out what infamous incident people are on about and what former poster 🤷‍♂️

Thats a very good example tbf.

You are missing something if you think the quality and value of a player is determined by stats.
Where did i say that? I said i would like to see their stats.
Presumably because he’s a few years younger?

It’s either that or because he plays for someone other than us.
Don't see how he should cost more just cos he is younger and Clarke's stats and performances are right up there with the best.

Honestly mate, it’s my pet hate - stats in football and the sway they hold over people. Without even having seen some players play people rate them by stats and stats alone, quick look on Wikipedia and that’s their opinion formed. Assists seem to hold big recognition these days, yet there’s still no universal decision to what an assist actually is! I’ve seen folk on here put names forward for possible signings by blatantly just looking at the top scorer lists from lower leagues and recommending them, never seen them play and no idea if they’re any good or not - Cole Stockton and Dom Telford obvious examples from recent seasons - truth is they’re both pretty crap players. You won’t beat watching someone play in order to form an opinion of how good they are!

I hate stats as much as the next person...but you can't just brush Clarke's goals and assists umder the carpet. It's the top end of the pitch and the hardest part where he's produced. It's not like i'm asking for stats on pass completion because they are a waste of time. Goals and assists are where the top players are.

I’m not brushing them under the carpet, but I’m not holding them in such importance as you. You’re questioning why Scott is worth more when Clarke’s stats are (probably) better - it doesn’t work like that!

Charlie Wyke 20/21 - 54 games 31 goals
Ross Stewart 21/22 - 53 games 26 goals
Who's the better player and who’s worth more?

Clarkes agent, Ian Harte, has already said at the beginning of the month that Clarke is happy here, its a good time to be at Sunderland but that nobody can stop other clubs doing what they want (ie, making multiple bids).
Doesn't sound like they're pushing for a move like some seem to suggest.

Of course, if the price is right, we will have to consider it but it still comes down to what the player wants to do. The club have been quite open about the selling/not selling policy, to be fair.

Whey ones got a dodgy ticker and the other has an ACL

You questioned why Scott would be worth more as you’ve hazarded a guess that his stats won’t be better than Clarke’s. Whether they are or not doesn’t determine a players value.
Well, it does umlnfortunately when clubs go and buy players.

You are brushing them under the carpet. You said you don't take note of them at all🤷‍♂️
