Bid rejected for Clarke

The pedro transfer and Lewis potter one tells you it’s a minimum 20m.

It's got to be around that, anything less than £15m and what's the point?

It's alright signing all these kids for a million here or there, but not all are ready for the first team. If we're removing quality players from it then we probably need to step up the recruitment to a few who are ready to go and those in attacking areas won't be as cheap, as Clarke wasn't.

Agreed. Plus you have to factor in we’ll owe money to spurs and he has 3 years on his deal. Let’s say he kicks on this season, he’ll still have 2 years left and we can probably add a lot more than 20m to his price tag. We hold all the cards really.

I'd expect him to be ambitious and everyone wants to be paid more. However he's already had one failed big move and he's playing regular football and developing here, listening to what Harte said before (although non-commital either way) he did kinda make that point and seemed to be in no rush.

I don't think we hold all the cards, a championship club in this situation never does.

It’ll be good for the balance sheet.

At £15 million gross less what we paid Spurs for him ..less whatever percentage of the sale profits go to Levy at Spurs won't leave us a lot..probably around £3 or £4 million I guess...doesn't buy a lot in terms of experience though!

Eze went for £17m 3 years ago from QPR. No less than £20m, especially given the reported sell % to Spurs. Even then, that money isn't going to replace a player who chipped in with 24 goal contributions. There's a decent chance we'll play in a league higher than Burnley the season after next, he'd be mad to go there and we'd be mad to sell. Once he becomes a PL player, his value doubles, especially given the fact he's English.

There isn't a player available who would sign a permanent contract at our level who would offer 24 goal contributions. Imperative Clarke stays.

I think that’s the gamble the club may be willing to take on recruiting cheap / free kids predominantly from overseas. A hope / belief that they will replace that.

Or they’ll be replaced using the loan market.

You think we will have to give Spurs 75-80% of the proceeds of his sale?! 😂😂😂

Exactly. It's all well and good having money in the bank but we lucked-out with Clarke and with every one of him, not getting a game at a top club, there's probably a Djaku. Clubs would also know we have money so prices would go up accordingly.

As you say, what's the point in that?
