Bid rejected for Clarke

Yes he says he’s happy here. I’ve not said Clarke wants away?

There was a bid last week reported as 9 million being rejected (someone has leaked it) and now his agent is doing press interviews saying he’s happy but ‘if the price is right’…even with a transfer fee specified in the article that would be the talking point for us to sell.

He can be happy here but still leave for the prem ‘if the price is right’.

Fwiw I was told a couple of weeks ago something that suggests he was making plans to be here next season, or at least certainly not something that would have been on his mind if he was intending to leave (it’s actually touched on in the article as well kind of) but it was second hand info from a player speaking on his behalf and tbh would be nothing that would stop him from going anyway. Just an action that had he been planning on leaving he wouldn’t bother doing.

Doesn’t mean if a PL side comes in with the right offer he won’t leave. Just means it will take a bigger package to get him.
Ian Harte was literally approached and asked by the press. What was he supposed to do run away?

Think Harte has made the point very well , that Clarke is under contract, is happy here but that every player has his price. Don't think the club want to sell, but if a daft offer comes in and the money is re-invested then we as supporters can't complain as we knew that was the model.
Clarke will be hard shoes to fill mind and a big loss of goals especially with Amad going back to Manchester.

You said Harte is touting him around. He's not. He says Clarke has had a class season, He's happy here, but sometimes the clubs accept high offers. If anything he's promoting his services, us and how well they/we look after their players. Gives Huggins a mention, as well. Basicallly an advert to young players come and I'll look after you and Sunderland will too if that's where you end up.

He’s doing an interview promoting his player. Highlighting his goals and assists and highlighting it’s only taken one season to do it whilst saying he’s happy and saying the right price will make a move happen. The fee SAFC will start business at is even included in the article as well as the clubs who hold an interest.

All within a week of it being leaked we rejected 9 million.

I don’t know why it’s so controversial to suggest an agent is looking to get a player sold when his stock is high and for a good financial package.

New set of golf clubs?

From his agent

Personally I don't see this as anything as but positive. Player is happy at the club and developing nicely after a unpleasant experience at a premier league club where they can ill-afford the time and games for a player to grow. On that basis agent is not touting player around at all. As he says if another club comes in with a huge offer and Sunderland accept its out of his hands. But the important thing is, as his agent, this is not what they are trying to achieve at this point. Obviously words are cheap but that seems about as reassuring as it could possibly be at this point int time.

Words are indeed cheap and in the wake of a report saying we have rejected 9 million his agent is doing an interview with the media saying everything has a price.

The article even specifies a figure SAFC will begin talks at.

I’m sure it’s just all a coincidence though that our most valuable player, with the most PL interest and subsequent derisory bid has been rejected, and his agent has just popped up to say if the price is right he would go.

Just reads as SAFC rejected a bid so up your offers and make sure you offer a good wage as that’s what it will take to shift him as he’s happy there. Look how many goals and assists he got in his first season. He’s worth it.

The stick you're getting is well over the top. I see what you're trying to say and partly agree with some of it... but don't think of it as negatively as you.

People have launched into you though.

Explained it a few times now. Thinking an agent wants to make money off their client seems to be a controversial subject though now because he included flattery.
Obviously we all know how agents make their income and we understand they put their clients before the club. But equally it is possible for the interests of player and club to be aligned. I think the interviews with Ian Harte and Patrick Roberts’ brother ( also his agent) showed how an agent can be happy that their client is doing well and feels settled at a good club on the up.

IMO he's not. If anyone will be leaking info I'd guess at the interested clubs.
