Can’t see that happening personally. Root is handy in the field and spare odd over as wellTo be honest Malan has performed better than Root in recent times so perhaps they want him at 3.

Personally I think it’s a sign of strength in depth with the bat.I would rather Stokes fixed his knee and rested up for India next year. No way he should have taken the place of Brook in the WC squad. I can see the rationale, but I don't agree with it t all. Is it a sign of our strength in depth with the bat, or weakness with selection?
It’s a World Cup happens once every 4 years and should be one of the highlights of a players career.
For me more important than an India test series which will be a extremely difficult anyway if they prepare big turning wickets as they did last time.
I would have respected his decision either way so much do I hold him in esteem as a cricketer.
But I am over the moon, such a proven big game player has decided to try and help his country win a World Cup.
The problem with your argument is that you are fully behind the way the 50 over format is being treated, and have said that the format isn't important and the players barely play any domestic 50 over cricket.
If you had made these arguments 4 years ago, when the whole country stopped to watch England win the world cup at home in one of the best events you'll ever see in any sport, then fine. But since then, the format has been downgraded and disregarded in favour of the farcical 16.4.
Test series are the pinnacle.
Barely any of the 2019 world cup side played in the 2018 and 2019 one day cups mind. The problem with your argument is that you are fully behind the way the 50 over format is being treated, and have said that the format isn't important and the players barely play any domestic 50 over cricket.

I do think rightly or wrongly 50 over cricket domestically was on a downward trend well before the hundred.Barely any of the 2019 world cup side played in the 2018 and 2019 one day cups mind.
Vince, Dawson and Curran as squad members played both. But of those that played Roy, Rashid and Moeen are the only ones who played in 2018 and none played in 2019.
@Voice of fair play is making the point about international players not playing 50 over cricket outside of internationals and he would be right.
I think mate England and India quite a bit better than the rest imo. With it being in India, I feel England making the semi final will be a good effort
this doesn’t mean I don’t want them to win it, before anyone piles in
Personally I think it’s a sign of strength in depth with the bat.
Don’t get the logic of resting for something after a World Cup!
As think only The Ashes trumps it in terms of importance
World Cups come just once every 4 years and are one of the biggest competitions and pinnacles of a players career
I don’t think for example a test series in New Zealand is anywhere near as important as a 50 over World Cup that happens once every 4 years.Whilst I do agree with your general sentiment. Stokes retired from ODI"s because of scheduling and fitness issues. I don't think he should waltz back in at the expense of Brook, who could play pivotal inning's like Ben did 4 years ago.
We should be looking forward not backwards, and especially since Stokes can't bowl. I can't see the upside to his inclusion, other than sentimentality.
I'm not going to enter into the debate which is more important. Although I will say I rank test cricket above everything.
1. Tests
2. ODI WC
3. T20 WC
4. Every other cricket

I do agree The Ashes should rank about all others though so a yes and no answer to your last point imo
With Stokes I think it all sports you have rare players who actually elevate their game the bigger the game the bigger the pressure it’s a very rare commodity.
And Stokes imo is the very example of above so for that reason alone I would include him and be one of the first names on my team sheet
Or yeah no argument from me there absolutely love Brook he is going to be if not already a hell of a player, would have took him over Malan.Yeah, you're right of course, more I think about it. Be daft not to take a player of Stokes' stature to the WC, but at the expense of Brook? I don't know. I just love how he has taken to England cricket this last year. Proper breath of fresh air. I still can't believe he's not in the team let alone the squad. No. 2 name on the batters sheet for me.
It’s a standard Aussie jibe . I’ll raise him Warner six months ahead of retiring wanting to play the last test of their summer aheadTim Paine saying that Stokes coming out of retirement is all about “me, me, me”. Of course he’d be the authority on selfishness given there is nothing more “me, me, me” than sexting another woman behind your wife’s back.

Brook had a poor IPL, though, which might have counted against him, or at least raised the question over whether he could be at his fluent best at a WC in India. I can't remember exactly, but I think he played in most of his franchise's matches, made one big score and an awful lot of single figure ones. When you can only pick 15 players, you at least know exactly what you're going to get with Stokes.I would rather Stokes fixed his knee and rested up for India next year. Yeah good shout mate, watched a lot of the IPL and Brook scored a 100 early on, then form fell right off, so much soo he was dropped at one point so imagine with been same conditions that would have countered against him.Brook had a poor IPL, though, which might have counted against him, or at least raised the question over whether he could be at his fluent best at a WC in India. Anyway, there's still a way to go yet. Lots of time for players to pick up an injury and replacements to be called up, so he might get there yet
