[BBC] Miners' Di Canio protest 'will only end with Sunderland campaign support'

The local UAF are saying they've got the NUM's backing in Sunderland now for anti-EDl demos and wotnot.

It's all a big political move.

Must have by-passed the left as they're still harping on about how they just want everyone to be fair and equal - don't we see? are we really that stupid that we can't understand that they're right and if we just let them take over our lives we'll thank them for it later?

I,ve asked a few family members who had there fathers father working in the pits and they couldnt give a toss about Pdc being in charge and are quite simply embarrassed by that page. Do they still think they have a voice in this area like they did in the 80s? oh wait they didnt then did they.

The last NUM secretary was Ian Lavery who is now MP for Wansbeck. A good MP but a big mag fan! Hopefully they will keep any opinions to themselves. That Hopper is making a big enough fool of himself without any more joining in.

So people weren't allowed to choose whether to cross a picket line or not? And those who did cross would have been subject to abuse (at best) and physical violence. Supression of the opposition by using terror tactics at its finest.

Add that to the fact that they went on strike over a winter causing power cuts that ended with thousands of old people that couldn't heat their homes and many died because of it, how very socialist of them as they were all on good money anyway.

To be honest, the best time to strike is when it'll have the most impact, thus in theory giving the strikers a great barganing chip.
