Barry Bannan or Dan Neil

He's an old lad playing for a mid-table League One club that have only managed to win 9 times in 22 attempts, this season. In his defence, he's better than Scowen or Power, so would walk into our team, last season.

Judging individual players by what their team has achieved isn't always a clever move. Even from our own history, we know that.

Bannan is a proper footballer, he's actually quite similar to Neil, obviously Neil has a very, very bright future ahead of him whereas Bannan is at the latter stage of his career. I would agree that trying to get Neil as much gametime as possible is what we should be doing, but it's easy to say that when he's our player.

Bannan never had the physical attributes to make it at the top level and he isn't good enough in other areas to overcome that. Neil has the physical potential.
 
If we naively let Bannann play again he'll probably look like Pirlo in his pomp, again. He's a good player who can make teams at this level or previously at Championship level tick.

Dan Neil plays a similar role but has more ability and the ability to get forward, playing forward balls and running with it.

Who knows who will come out on top, but Dan Neil has both the potential and the ability at the moment to come out on top, but experience and freedom might dictate tonight he doesn't.

It's made him a very useful Championship player, but Neil should go beyond that - physically he may not have developed yet but he not only has the ability to play the ball, but the ability to carry it and beat people at this level, often with ease.

Jokes aside Dan Neil every fookin’ time. Hes already my favourite young centre midfielder we’ve produced and I’ve been goin 30 years. Gotta work so so hard to build on it to become the player he could be. It helps he’s just a proper sound lad from Jarra who loves his footy and the club (sure most know plenty just like him) but hope he builds on what he’s got cos there’s bits of his game that are absolute top class.

Keep him out of the game for a bit, he gets frustrated and starts having a go at the other players...Fair play I do the f.ookin' same
Then he tries too much and he drifts backwards, takes it off the centre half, and wonders who to pass to in midfield..Seeing as he has just left the bloody midfield, the options are limited
As for playing at a higher level?
Ive heard he had offers but decided to stay...can't fault him for that...Most would have left the door swingin'
 
I’ve heard Xavi has identified him as the player to rebuild Barca around, apparently sees both prime Iniesta and himself in him.

Sounds a bit like a similar problem we had with McGeady on occasion

There's a reason why Brentford, a mid-table Premier League club with one of the best recruitment teams in the country, bid for him last year and were looking at him again in the summer for the top division. This is a club that rarely ever target domestic players and players above a certain age - they only do so for special players. Obviously the usual experts on here know better once again.

He is phenomenal for this level. There have been better talents at this level, Neil being one, but I can't think of a more accomplished midfielder at this level for decades. He's the beating heart of their team and they're lucky to have him. The only reason he's at this level is because their owner is willing to give him £30,000 a week.
