Barry Bannan or Dan Neil

There's a reason why Brentford, a mid-table Premier League club with one of the best recruitment teams in the country, bid for him last year and were looking at him again in the summer for the top division. This is a club that rarely ever target domestic players and players above a certain age - they only do so for special players. Obviously the usual experts on here know better once again.

He is phenomenal for this level. There have been better talents at this level, Neil being one, but I can't think of a more accomplished midfielder at this level for decades. He's the beating heart of their team and they're lucky to have him. The only reason he's at this level is because their owner is willing to give him £30,000 a week.
McGeady has played in the champions league for at least two clubs, Bannan on the other hand..

More accomplished midfielder at this level? Well there’s one at our club

I'm not saying he's the footballer who has had the best career at this level; I'm saying he's the most accomplished midfielder. Brentford have been linked with him throughout last season and this summer too. If McGeady had played for Champions League clubs immediately prior to playing in League One, or had been linked to clubs of those standards then it would be relevant. McGeady's had a better career and was a far better player at his peak. Bannan in 2021 at this level is a better footballer than McGeady was in in 2018.

Bannan is better than any of our midfielders at present. Neil will easily surpass him in a relatively short period of time though, and he'll go a lot further in the game than Bannan ever did. That's my view. That's my opinion.

Judging individual players by what their team has achieved isn't always a clever move. Even from our own history, we know that.

Bannan is a proper footballer, he's actually quite similar to Neil, obviously Neil has a very, very bright future ahead of him whereas Bannan is at the latter stage of his career. I would agree that trying to get Neil as much gametime as possible is what we should be doing, but it's easy to say that when he's our player.
It is a clever move in this case. The similarity between Bannan and Neil ends with the fact that they'll be on the same pitch.

And you know his wage how?

I’d take Pritchard, McGeady and Neil over him.

Pritchard also has cost more over his career than bannan whilst playing at similar levels of jumping around the championship and premier league.

Oxlade Chamberlain too. More games at this level, more games at a higher level.

Again, I wasn't saying he's the player with the best career at this level or the player who had cost the most. If you think that all three are better midfielders at this moment in time than Bannan it's your opinion, and I hope you're right too.

Lallana too, but as I said there have been more talented players at this level but not as accomplished at that moment in time. I get that you want to nitpick and bend things out of context but please read carefully.

But you did say he was the best at this level.

Did Morgan schneiderlin not start in league 1 also?

He's probably the best Barry.

To have a differing opinion again (or "nitpick" when it's someone disagreeing with you obviously  ) you did say the best "in decades" and he doesn't come close to mcgeady on any metric whatsoever.

I'd add ex Leeds and mags Alan Smith too.

He's an excellent shout actually. Actually turned into a decent discussion this from a moronic claim being made.

McGeady last season 29games, 4goals, 14assists
Bannan this season 21games, 2goals, 4assists

There’s just no way that Bannan in the present is better than McGeady was last season

We are a worse team with McGeady in and in the last 2 and a half seasons our results with him out of the team are miles better than when he plays.
