Back to two divisions

Headline says it all. ECB wish to retain the conference set up,majority of counties wish to return to division s. Wil be decided next Wednesday after County Chairmen meeting with ECB.

I would run the conferences for one more season so that the clubs know what they're playing for and what they have to do.

Would seem a bit harsh to to either:
1) return to the same divisions of 3 years ago when the teams bear no reflection to back then.
2) Split them on this seasons placings where nobody knew what they were playing for.

Whatever happens, I'm sure they'll find a way to put Durham in Div 2.

I suspect that this is the correct (and fairest) answer

I think that it must be assumed that all teams were playing to win every match so i'm not sure that your reason 2) has much merit

So, according to George “Finishing positions in the 2022 season would, in such a scenario, define the make-up of the divisions in 2023. That means the finishing positions achieved at the end of 2019, when Gloucestershire and Northants were among those who achieved promotion, would be void. It is anticipated that there would be 10 teams in division one and eight in division two.”

What does “finishing positions in 2022” mean? Could it be this (based on all team’s results expressed as a single division (2021 data shown here)):

Although the former is possibly fairer, the latter is almost certainly what they mean. So effectively all teams finding themselves in Division 1 at the end of July will go straight into the top division for the 2023 two-division competition whilst those in Division 3 are doomed to fall into the bottom group. Come September 2022, Division 2 gets very interesting with the top four finishing spots becoming crucial. If that had been the case this year Kent would have found themselves missing out and Northants would be the lucky beneficiaries. It could, of course, be argued that Kents placing at top of Div 3 this year was assisted by playing against weaker opposition in the final phase games and Northants vice versa.

Compared with 2020 divisions (as planned pre Covid), Surrey would get relegated and Durham promoted!

Conference system to be retained for 2022 season according to George Dobell.
Get fucked off* man

It’ll be, from the big table, the clubs in positions:

Group A - 1, 6, 7, 12, 13, 18

Group B - 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17

Group C - 3, 4, 9, 10, 15, 16

Then the second half of the season will be the top two from each group into Division One, middle two into Division Two, bottom two into Division Three.

Is my guess.
