Back to two divisions

Atherton makes some good points especially the counties obsession with overseas players especially short term ones which cost a fortune.
On balance I still prefer two divisions but hope the counties look at the last 2 seasons where short term gains have not had priority over developing home grown talent.

Which I'm entirely fine with and is the right decision. It would make things competitive again and we are making good progress. This has to happen
I'm not. Assuming we don't bollocks things up at Bristol, it's an opportunity for FTECB to put right their appalling decision in 2016.

The number of SAffers with British passports is a big issue. We've benefitted from this more than anyone over the years.

Just listened to Marty's post match interview with Franklin after the Gloustershire defeat and talking about next season Marty was saying his information is that the conference system will stay in place for 2022 which is the complete opposite to the Times article. Franklin responded with a straight bat.

In fairness to Marty, the conference continuation was the most ‘concrete’ of all the ideas and murmurings we’ve had. So perhaps that’s what he’s going off.

Hopefully the counties put pressure on the administrators to make sure the right decision is reached.

Yeah prefer two divisions personally but it would be interesting to know who Marty had been talking to. He gets all around the country and will speak to various people at the grounds during his day to day commentary.

possibly from article in Telegraph(Tim Wigmore) mentioning both Conference and Divisions structure up for debate then PGG will make preferred recommendation at end of month( Bostock is on PGG)

So do you reckon he has just been reading the papers like us or he might have a bit more information from the likes of Bostock personally.

Doubt if Bostock would reveal anything. Just a case of which case the consensus of opinions from the Counties goes. That'll cme about from the end of season county ceo's meeting from which PGG will make recommendation to ECB for adoption. Daftest suggestion is for part of CC to be played during the Hundred with resulting weakened CC teams. How daft is that?
what is clear is the Hundred is sacrosanct for the whole of midsummer.

Yeah that would be awful. My problem is I'm honestly not convinced how commited some counties are to championship cricket in whatever form it is played and that it's a bit if a filler before and after the T20 in particular.

If we want four day cricket to be played in the height of summer we might have to accept at least some overlap with the Hundred.

I fear the counties may have got there main priority with regards to the callender for 2022 by T20 finals day returning to July. That means their expensive overseas imports will be available which wasn't the case playing it in mud September.

Yes, but the biggest earner in both tv revenue and gate receipts is Test Match cricket and for that we need to prioritise its feeding ground, the county championship. Can neither those counties and ECB not realize that?

Well I look at Sussex and think no. They have got what 5 or 6 of their senior players who are on one day contracts and won't be on peanuts which has led to them playing a team full of youngsters in the championship and even players like Garton who is supposedly a potential England player has been played as a specialist batsmen to make sure he is fit to bowl on T20 finals day.
No wonder their members are unhappy but as I have said on here before county members are nowhere near as important as what they where 20 years ago. Much better to keep a group of lads whi turn up for a T20 and get on the lash for 3 or 4 hours.

Not that I’d support the conference idea again… BUT, it has been canny this week with four teams all with a good chance of winning the title going into the last week of the campaign.
I know I’m a Yorkie and it’s likely to be “them” winning it but whoever had won it I’d fee the same. It doesn’t feel right to crown “county champions” on the back of four games against the best sides in the country. Feels even more of a lottery than the white ball tournaments. Yes I know there was the group stage earlier in the year but that was a bit of a mish mash of standards and for the most part the cream rose to the top fairly easily

Yes I think that point about cream rising is a good one. Equally the lower Div 2 teams were on a hiding to nothing. But it also makes a good case for using final 2019 tables as the basis for 2022 divisions.

Time to end the blocks and have T20 and CC running through more of the summer together. T20 on Thursday/ Friday nights and CC in between.

The players don’t like chopping and changing but the benefits are T20s spread out (better crowds), with the same for the CC (more midsummer cricket). No brainer for me.

I wouldn’t want either of those played as shadow tournaments so I’d keep the 50/50 as the sacrificial lamb running alongside the Hundred.

I really want to see the 50 over competition treated with the respect it deserves. The Hundred last four weeks. I suggest two CC games and three/four ODC games during that period.
