Or because Prior has been a world class wicketkeeper/batsman for the last few years, and that Foster is older, and has been tried and failed.
This. Prior is the heart and soul of the team. If the proven players got dropped after horror trots Cook wouldn't have played in 10/11.

To be fair, Foster was never really given a true chance. He's only played 7 times and his last Test was in 2002 when he was 22. He has come on leaps and bounds since then. He has been the best all round wicketkeeper in the County game for at least the last 8 years.

Hmmm, a debatable but not outrageous suggestion.
He's firmly behind Kieswetter, Buttler and Bairstow now who are all younger and (probably) better batsmen.[DOUBLEPOST=1387094888][/DOUBLEPOST]
Averages over 40 with the bat and his glovework has been more than acceptable after a decent start. Would be in the team in any country except Sri Lanka.
