Australia v England, 2nd Test, 4th December 0400

On the plus side, every Root run is a run closer to Sachin and India social media having the meltdown to end all meltdowns
Want him to get it for lots and lots of reasons but also can see a future where the BCCI start promoting test cricket and scheduling 20 tests a year for India so that an Indian can go back past Root.

Records are made to be broken, test cricket needs matches and support from the boards to thrive

Flower didn’t drop Pietersen after holing out to long on when batting for the draw at the WACA (‘it’s the way I play’).

Apparently Gooch nearly throttled him though.
Yeah I remember that, was a stupid shot but not sure confronting him as he got back to the dressing room was the best way to Foster relations, especially since he was the only batter to stand up to Johnson

See I disagree. I think Pope is one of the few batsman with the technique to play test match cricket successfully. But not with this set up. He’s given a license to play in a manner he should not be playing in.

As you say, a coach like Flower, or Kirsten or anyone who demands standards of temperament and discipline in a long format game, would be far better for him.
For me I think Pope has the ability, but the mental side of the game let's him down. Very rarely do you see him stepping up with an important innings when the game is on the line, as shown with him only averaging 20 in the 2nd innings. You need more from your number 3.
